With the shortlist for the Mercury Prize<\/a> set to be revealed next week at a later date than usual, speculation now turns to who\u2019ll make the final cut \u2013 including some acclaimed records released more recently.<\/p>\n

The shortlist for the Mercury Prize is usually revealed in mid-to-late July, celebrating the best albums released by British and Irish artists over the last 12 months.<\/p>\n

However, this year the 12 albums shall be shared at a ceremony in London on the morning on Wednesday September 10.<\/p>\n

As a result, this year\u2019s period of eligibility for albums is over a month longer, with the records needing to have been released between Saturday July 13, 2024, and Friday August 29, 2025.<\/p>\n

Acclaimed albums released at the start of this period include Soft Play<\/a>\u2018s \u2018Heavy Jelly\u2019, Beabadoobee<\/a>\u2018s \u2018This Is How Tomorrow Moves<\/a>\u2018, Hamish Hawk<\/a>\u2018s \u2018A Firmer Hand\u2019 and \u2018Romance<\/a>\u2018 by Fontaines D.C.. <\/a>Releases in the last month that could be likely to make an appearance on the shortlist but would normally have otherwise appeared the following year include \u2018Euro-Country<\/a>\u2018 by CMAT<\/a>, \u2018The Clearing<\/a>\u2018 by Wolf Alice<\/a>, and For Those I Love<\/a>\u2018s \u2018Carving The Stone<\/a>\u2018.<\/p>\n

Other eligible British and Irish albums that could make the cut include The Cure<\/a>\u2018s \u2018Songs Of A Lost World<\/a>\u2018, \u2018Eusexua<\/a>\u2018 by FKA Twigs<\/a>, \u2018Lotus\u2019<\/a> by Little Simz<\/a>, \u2018Hopefully<\/a>!\u2019 by Loyle Carner<\/a>, \u2018People Watching<\/a>\u2018 by Sam Fender<\/a>, \u2018Who Let The Dogs Out<\/a>\u2018 by Lambrini Girls<\/a>, \u2018More<\/a>\u2018 by Pulp<\/a>, \u2018Moisturizer<\/a>\u2018 by Wet Leg<\/a>, and Kae Tempest<\/a>\u2018s 2025 self titled LP.<\/p>\n

Submissions for the Mercury Prize needed to have been received by June 25.<\/p>\n

Last year\u2019s Mercury Prize was held at London\u2019s iconic Abbey Road Studios and saw English Teacher snag the prestigious trophy <\/a>for their universally-acclaimed debut album \u2018This Could Be Texas<\/a>\u2019 \u2013 beating off competition\u00a0from Charli XCX<\/a>, CMAT<\/a>, Ghetts<\/a>, The Last Dinner Party<\/a>, Corinne Bailey Rae<\/a>, Beth Gibbons<\/a>, Barry Can\u2019t Swim<\/a> and more.<\/p>\n

The final of the Mercury Prize this year will be moving from its traditional home in London to a grand ceremony in Newcastle<\/a>. This comes as part of a new partnership with Newcastle City Council and the North East Combined Authority with the award show held on October 16 at the city\u2019s Utilita Arena after a week-long regional fringe programme to \u201ccelebrate the depth and diversity of talent in the north and create opportunities for local talent\u201d.\u00a0<\/p>\n
