{"id":376470,"date":"2026-03-09T20:51:11","date_gmt":"2026-03-09T20:51:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/376470\/"},"modified":"2026-03-09T20:51:11","modified_gmt":"2026-03-09T20:51:11","slug":"limerick-carer-gets-three-year-driving-ban-for-drink-driving-at-night","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/376470\/","title":{"rendered":"Limerick carer gets three-year driving ban for drink driving at night"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A CARER has been convicted of drink driving in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.limerickleader.ie\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Limerick.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Umaro Tarawalie, 35, of Chestnut Garden, Newcastle West, was flagged down by a garda on patrol who was \u201cconcerned by his manner of driving\u201d on the Rossbrien Road, Dooradoyle, at 1.46am, on September 15, 2024.<\/p>\n<p>Prosecuting Sergeant Denis Waters said that the man was administered a drug test and arrested.<\/p>\n<p>Upon testing at the station, Mr Tarawalie was found to have 76 mg of alcohol per 100 ml of breath.<\/p>\n<p><strong>READ MORE:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.limerickleader.ie\/news\/crime-and-courts\/2030260\/new-plan-announces-more-gardai-on-the-city-streets-in-limerick.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">New plan announces more garda\u00ed on the city streets in Limerick<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The legal drink-driving limit in Ireland for fully licensed, experienced drivers is 50 mg of alcohol per 100 ml of blood.<\/p>\n<p>Limerick District City Court heard that Mr Tarawalie has no previous convictions.<\/p>\n<p>Making a plea of mitigation for Mr Tarawalie, Solicitor Darach McCarthy said \u201che\u2019s very sorry\u201d, and that his client is pleading guilty to the intoxication matter.<\/p>\n<p>The solicitor said that Mr Tarawalie is married, and the father of three children. Mr McCarthy stated that Mr Tarawalie is employed as a careworker, and the man drives to work.<\/p>\n<p>Mr McCarthy petitioned the judge to defer any driving disqualification, as Mr Tarawalie will have to move house if he cannot drive to work.<\/p>\n<p>Judge Patricia Harney disqualified the man from driving for three years.
