Tig Notaro shared more Monday about her fallout with former friend and podcast co-host Cheryl Hines over her marriage to Robert F. Kennedy Jr., telling MS NOW\u2019s Nicolle Wallace that she had to \u201cshake myself out of denial\u201d that it was good and over. <\/p>\n

Sitting with the MS NOW host on her \u201cThe Best People\u201d podcast, Notaro recalled why she decided to remove herself from \u201cTig and Cheryl: True Story\u201d as RFK Jr. gained political momentum and touted ideals that went against her own.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think that I needed to stop doing the podcast because it was so ridiculous, it was so stupid that it was hard to be doing that when he was gaining momentum and speaking,\u201d she said. \u201cPeople would interrupt my stand-up shows and yell, \u2018Bobby is crazy!\u2019 And I was telling Cheryl, I know it\u2019s a small percentage that pushes back online or yells out at shows, but I was like, \u2018Man, this is not my world. I don\u2019t want to be a part of this.\u2019 And she was like, \u2018I understand.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

From there, Notaro noted that Hines continued the podcast with comedian Rachael Harris \u2014 \u201cwhich I was fine for them to do\u201d \u2014 but that it was a decision that Hines appeared at peace with.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut what was most upsetting to me was that we were in such opposing places, but I continued to reach out to her and send her love and support, because I didn\u2019t know what was going on behind closed doors, because things shifted very severely,\u201d she recalled. \u201cAnd she would respond very pleasantly \u2014 \u2018Thanks, lady. Oh, this means so much, and I love you and miss you\u2019 and all of that. But then I realized one day she doesn\u2019t ever reach out to me anymore.\u201d<\/p>\n

The comedian added: \u201cShe\u2019s responds to me, but she doesn\u2019t reach out to me. And I had to kind of shake myself out of denial that she\u2019s gone and OK, I need to let this go. I need to let it go.\u201d<\/p>\n

Notaro added that it\u2019s a \u201cbummer\u201d to see Hines give interviews where their fallout is framed as Notaro cutting Hines loose rather than the other way around. (In a November interview with Howie Mandel<\/a>, for instance, Hines said, \u201cI don\u2019t hold anything against her because that\u2019s what she feels like she needs to do for herself, and she feels like she needs to distance herself from me.\u201d)<\/p>\n

\u201cThere have been some interviews claiming that I just dumped her and and just left her in the dust because of Bobby, but I was trying to be a friend to her, even though I didn\u2019t feel like I could continue with the podcast,\u201d Notaro told Wallace. \u201cBut it\u2019s been very strange, and I think I\u2019ve moved past the confusion and sadness.\u201d<\/p>\n

Notaro previously shared<\/a> that she began taking issue with Hines\u2019 relationship with RFK Jr. as the \u201cCurb Your Enthusiasm\u201d actress began apparently aligning herself with his politics. <\/p>\n

\u201cWhen somebody is like, \u2018Oh we don\u2019t agree on everything\u2019 within a marriage, that is so vague,\u201d Notaro said on the \u201cBreaking Bread With Tom Papa\u201d<\/a> podcast in October. Hines had pragmatically used such lines<\/a> while on \u201cThe View\u201d or being profiled by The Wall Street Journal. Notaro criticized such vagueness by comparing it to disagreements she has with her wife about the thermostat. <\/p>\n

\u201cI think where it has led is \u2026 It\u2019s not my world. It\u2019s a hard pass,\u201d she told Papa at the time, adding, \u201cYou\u2019re OKing a particular ride for this country to go on.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lamenting her \u201cTig and Cheryl\u201d podcast with Hines, Notaro explained, \u201cIt\u2019s really sad, because it did bring me so much joy. And Cheryl did bring me so much joy. But that\u2019s what I\u2019m looking for, is I want to get back to prioritizing people that bring me joy and workloads that bring me joy.\u201d<\/p>\n
