Sabrina Carpenter<\/a> has shared her perspective on the backlash aimed at Barry Keoghan<\/a> after the two broke up.<\/p>\n

The pop singer\u2019s seventh studio album \u2018Man\u2019s Best Friend<\/a>\u2018 arrived on Friday (August 29), having been previewed by the \u201csong of the summer\u201d \u2018Manchild<\/a>\u2018. The lyrics to that saw Carpenter call out inept men, leading fans to believe it was written as a dig at Keoghan<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The same day the record dropped, Carpenter sat down with CBS Mornings\u2018 Gayle King, touching on how the album wasn\u2019t for the \u201cpearl clutchers\u201d<\/a> and addressing the controversy surrounding its cover<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Elsewhere in their discussion, King brought up Keoghan by name, saying he had gotten \u201ca lot of backlash because your fans are very loyal,\u201d to which the pop singer replied: \u201cCorrect.\u201d<\/p>\n

After being asked how she felt about that, Carpenter continued: \u201cYou know what\u2019s funny? I feel pretty transparent going into any of my relationships, that I write songs. And I think they\u2019re just as down for it. I think also most of the time, they\u2019ve been pretty flattered when they get a song written about them, good or bad.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI think they\u2019re just excited to get a shout-out,\u201d she added. \u201cI\u2019m not scared of men in that sense. I am scared of men sometimes, but I\u2019m not scared in that sense. I think I will attract exactly who I\u2019m supposed to attract.\u201d<\/p>\n

The two were first rumoured to be dating in September 2023, then made their first public appearance together at the Grammys after-party the following February. They attended the\u00a0MET Gala<\/a>\u00a0together too, Carpenter\u00a0made a nod to his infamous\u00a0Saltburn\u00a0scene at Coachella<\/a>\u00a02024, and the\u00a0Banshees of Inisherin<\/a>\u00a0actor also\u00a0starred in the music video for her hit song \u2018Please Please Please\u2019.<\/a><\/p>\n

They were rumoured to have split in December 2024, and amid rumours of cheating, Keoghan took to social media to\u00a0call out some of the \u201cdisgusting\u201d behaviour he faced from fans<\/a>, after he said his name had \u201cbeen dragged across the internet\u201d.<\/p>\n

He is set to play Ringo Starr in the forthcoming four-part biopic film series centring around The Beatles<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 acting alongside\u00a0Harris Dickinson as John Lennon, Paul Mescal as Paul McCartney, and Joseph Quinn as George Harrison<\/a>, while Carpenter has been linked to a possible role in\u00a0Mamma Mia 3<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Following it\u2019s release, \u2018Man\u2019s Best Friend\u2019 scored a four-star review from NME<\/a>, with Nick Levine writing: \u201cMusically, this album isn\u2019t markedly different from its predecessor, though it has a few more country-leaning cuts sprinkled among the daytime disco and featherlight funk.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt also sticks to Carpenter\u2019s winning formula of pairing sticky melodies with pithy lyrics about the flaws and allure of inadequate males.
