\n\tRosamund Pike<\/a> appeared on a recent episode of the \u201cHow to Fail with Elizabeth Day\u201d podcast <\/a>and opened up about the \u201ccatastrophe\u201d of staring in 2005\u2019s \u201cDoom<\/a>\u201d video game adaptation. The sci-fi action movie, directed by Andrzej Bartkowiak, was headlined by Dwayne Johnson<\/a> and Karl Urban. Pike was still an up-and-comer, having recently broken out as a villain in the James Bond movie \u201cDie Another Day.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cWhen I was making\u00a0\u2018Pride & Prejudice\u2019 and I was having great fun in my cornfields in my bonnet, I get a call to be in an action franchise,\u201d Pike said (via The Independent<\/a>). \u201cThey were making a cinema version, a narrative version of the video game\u00a0\u2018Doom.\u2019 And I think in my bonnet, in my field of hay bales, \u2018Yeah, I can do anything. I can jump on this hay bale in my crinoline, so I can certainly go and kill some zombies on Mars.’\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cSo suddenly I\u2019m in this film with the Rock, and I realize how utterly ill-equipped I am to be an action star,\u201d she continued. \u201c[There were] macho guys. There were weights on the set. Every time a gun was brought out, it was kind of like a holy relic for the\u00a0\u2018Doom\u2019\u00a0fans. I was just out of my comfort zone, out of my league, out of my depth.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cDoom\u201d centered on a group of marines on Mars as they fight back agaisnt demon-like creatures. Johnson\u2019s acting career was also on the rise after roles in \u201cThe Scorpion King\u201d and \u201cWalking Tall,\u201d but he was nowhere near the box office draw he is now. Johnson replaced Ray Winstone on the movie. \u201cDoom\u201d flopped was just under $60 million worldwide. Reviews were even worse. The film\u2019s Rotten Tomatoes score stands at 18%, although Variety wrote in its review <\/a>that the movie \u201cis really not all that bad.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIt was an absolute bomb. I mean, I probably could have ended my career,\u201d Pike said. \u201cIt was just probably one of the worst films ever made. I mean, it was a catastrophe. I don\u2019t read the reviews, but you get the sense like you\u2019re lucky to have survived that one.\u201d<\/p>\n
