McCabe will open on the Cycladic island of Paros on March 28, organizers said.<\/p>\n<p>The Environmental and Cultural Park of Paros said the exhibition, titled \u201cMemories from the Aegean,\u201d will run through September 30 at the Porto Aoussa art space in the port settlement of Naoussa.<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" data-lazy-type=\"image\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/SCAN_3435_v_2026_01-1.jpg\" alt=\"robert-a-mccabes-memories-from-the-aegean-exhibition-opens-on-paros0\" width=\"750\" height=\"1125\" class=\"lazy lazy-hidden \" data-id=\"1297951\"\/><\/p>\n<p>The show features 82 photographs selected by McCabe in collaboration with curator Costas Vidakis. The images depict life on islands across the Aegean Sea from the 1950s to the late 1970s \u2013 including what are now cosmopolitan tourist destinations such as Mykonos and Santorini \u2013 before the rise of mass tourism and modern transportation.<\/p>\n<p>They capture everyday moments and island landscapes: children playing in dusty courtyards, women standing at the thresholds of their homes, fishermen returning from the sea \u2013 small, ordinary scenes rendered timeless through McCabe\u2019s lens.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-lazy-type=\"image\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/SCAN_0795_v_2026_01.jpg\" alt=\"robert-a-mccabes-memories-from-the-aegean-exhibition-opens-on-paros2\" width=\"950\" height=\"950\" class=\"lazy lazy-hidden \" data-id=\"1297960\"\/><\/p>\n<p>McCabe was born in 1934 in Chicago and grew up in Rye, New York. He first traveled to Greece in 1954 as a Princeton University student, a trip that shaped his photographic career.<\/p>\n<p>On later visits, he traveled extensively across the Aegean, photographing the Greek islands, and in 1957 produced a series of images for National Geographic.<\/p>\n<p>His work has been exhibited in major museums, including the Acropolis Museum, the Museum of Cycladic Art, and the Benaki Museum.<\/p>\n<p>Most recently, in January 2026, the Athens Art Gallery presented an exhibition and photographic album titled \u201cDelphi in the 1950s through the Lens of Robert McCabe.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-lazy-type=\"image\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/SCAN_1328_v_2026_01.jpg\" alt=\"robert-a-mccabes-memories-from-the-aegean-exhibition-opens-on-paros4\" width=\"950\" height=\"950\" class=\"lazy lazy-hidden \" data-id=\"1297961\"\/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"An exhibition of photographs by American photographer Robert A.
