\n\tBack in 1990, the Black Crowes<\/a> were on tour with hard rock band the McAuley Schenker Group when Aerosmith<\/a> put out the call for someone to open the summer leg of their Pump<\/a> Tour.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Crowes, who were just getting hot with their debut single \u201cJealous Again\u201d and debut album Shake Your Money Maker, landed the gig, but according to guitarist Rich Robinson, there was some confusion about who exactly was going to join Steven Tyler, Joe Perry, and company in arenas and baseball parks.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cWe were playing in Boston and our manager was like, \u2018They\u2019re coming down to give you the Aerosmith tour.\u2019 But for some reason [McAuley Schenker Group] thought Aerosmith was coming down to offer it to them,\u201d Rich says.<\/p>\n

\n\tAs his brother Chris Robinson tells it, things got a little awkward between the Black Crowes and MSG. \u201cThey were like, \u2018Nice to meet you kids, but we\u2019re going on the Aerosmith tour,\u2019\u201d Chris says. \u201cThey were like, \u2018You guys don\u2019t really know what you\u2019re doing and we\u2019ve been doing this for quite a while, so enjoy your careers.\u2019 We were like, \u2018Enjoy your time off!\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tWhen the Black Crowes joined Aerosmith for their first show together, at the Stabler Arena in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, they recall Aerosmith\u2019s Perry being barred from entering the venue \u2014 because the guitar hero wasn\u2019t wearing his backstage laminate.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cHe\u2019s there in leather pants, no shirt, and like a guitar, and they\u2019re like, \u2018You can\u2019t come in, sir.\u2019 It\u2019s fucking Joe Perry!\u201d Chris says. \u201cHe is like Joe Perry who ate an avatar of Joe Perry. That guy is only supposed to be reclining on a velvet cushion backstage.\u201d<\/p>\n
