Do you remember the Doom movie from 2005, based on id Software\u2019s first three games? If not, don\u2019t remember, Rosamund Pike definitely does, and not in an especially positive light.<\/p>\n
Pike recently guest starred on Elizabeth Day\u2019s\u00a0How to Fail<\/a>\u00a0podcast, where she talked about her brief jump over to action movies after filming Pride & Prejudice.\u00a0She\u2019d had some experience when she was Miranda Frost in 2002\u2019s Die Another\u00a0Day,\u00a0but the\u00a0Doom\u00a0movie could\u2019ve marked a potential pivot point that she says turned out to be a huge wakeup call. The movie, where she plays Sam Grimm (sister of Karl Urban\u2019s Reaper), made her realize \u201chow utterly ill-equipped I am to be an action star,\u201d she told Day.<\/p>\n \u201cI was just out of my comfort zone, out of my league, my depth, and the film was an absolute bomb,\u201d Pike continued. She went on to call it \u201cprobably one of the worst films ever made\u201d and said it \u201ccould\u2019ve ended my career. [\u2026] I don\u2019t read the reviews, but you get the sense you\u2019re lucky to have survived that one.\u201d\u00a0Yowch,\u00a0but not exactly an unpopular thought: at the time, the film received pretty negative reviews and was a box-office bomb. This also isn\u2019t the first time she\u2019s commented on the movie, since in 2021, she kicked herself<\/a> a bit for not knowing the games before accepting the role.<\/p>\n The good news is,\u00a0Doom\u00a0didn\u2019t kill her career (or anyone\u2019s really), and she\u2019s even dipped back into action with\u00a0The Wheel of Time. (RIP<\/a>.) Meanwhile, id has revitalized the\u00a0Doom\u00a0games, with the most recent game landing in 2025.
