\u2018That comment broke my heart\u2019<\/p>\n

Karan revealed that while he has learned to deal with criticism over the years, one particular remark about his parenting left him shaken.\u201cThere was a comment that said, \u2018Do you realise you\u2019ve denied your children a mother?\u2019 That broke my heart. It made me question my decision of being a single parent,\u201d he said on Mojo Story with Barkha Dutt. <\/p>\n

The filmmaker recalled that the remark made him emotional. \u201cThat morning I read that comment and I cried,\u201d he admitted.However, a simple moment with his children soon reassured him about his decision.\u201cI went into my children\u2019s room. They were about five years old. I asked them, \u2018Are you happy?\u2019 They said, \u2018Yes, because you\u2019re our Dada.\u2019 That answered my question,\u201d Karan shared.<\/p>\n

\u2018Your instinct is your superhero\u2019<\/p>\n

Karan, who welcomed his twins through surrogacy in 2017, said he always had strong paternal instincts but initially waited for love to happen in his life before becoming a parent.\u201cI always had strong paternal and maternal instincts. For a long time I kept waiting for love to happen. But I realised you cannot keep waiting forever,\u201d he said.Eventually, he decided to follow his instinct. \u201cWith medical and legal help, Yash and Roohi came into my life when I was 44,\u201d the filmmaker added.Karan also shared that he consciously chose not to rely on parenting manuals. \u201cThe first thing I did was not read parenting books or listen to podcasts. Your instinct is your superhero. Nobody can tell you how to parent your child,\u201d he explained. <\/p>\n

Karan Johar Admits His Twins Are ‘More Entitled and Privileged’ Than Him<\/p>\n

\u2018Don\u2019t raise children with stereotypes\u2019<\/p>\n

The filmmaker also spoke about the importance of raising children without rigid gender stereotypes.\u201cIt begins with simple things. Don\u2019t say \u2018don\u2019t cry like a girl\u2019. Everyone has the right to cry,\u201d he said.Karan added that he makes a conscious effort not to assign activities or colours based on gender. \u201cDon\u2019t buy pink for girls and blue for boys. My daughter plays football, my son does dance. They both do taekwondo, jazz ballet and sports together,\u201d he shared. <\/p>\n

Learning to deal with trolling<\/p>\n
