{"id":38711,"date":"2025-09-02T13:43:07","date_gmt":"2025-09-02T13:43:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/38711\/"},"modified":"2025-09-02T13:43:07","modified_gmt":"2025-09-02T13:43:07","slug":"glasner-threatened-to-quit-over-guehi-sale-as-real-madrid-barcelona-problem-emerges","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/38711\/","title":{"rendered":"Glasner &#8216;threatened to quit&#8217; over Guehi sale as Real Madrid, Barcelona problem emerges"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Liverpool will face competition to sign Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi from Real Madrid and Barcelona in January, according to reports.<\/p>\n<p>The Reds had a very successful summer transfer window with the signing of Alexander Isak the icing on the cake as a \u00a3125m transfer was confirmed late on deadline day.<\/p>\n<p>If Isak was the icing, then Guehi would have been the cherry on top, but <a href=\"https:\/\/www.football365.com\/news\/liverpool-ornstein-guehi-final-decision-one-reason-verdict-deal-sheet-reveal\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>The Athletic\u2018s David Ornstein broke the news<\/strong><\/a> around 45 minutes after the deadline had passed, that the England international was \u2018set to stay\u2019 at Crystal Palace.<\/p>\n<p>Ornstein added more detail: \u2018The England international, 25, completed at least part of a medical after a fee of \u00a335million was agreed between the clubs. Personal terms on a five-year contract to 2030 were also in place.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Head coach Oliver Glasner has been vocally opposed to Guehi\u2019s sale this summer and has been resolute that his captain could not be allowed to leave unless an appropriate replacement was found.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>While transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano also reacted to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.football365.com\/liverpool\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Liverpool<\/strong><\/a> tranfer collapse: \u2018BREAKING: Marc Guehi-Liverpool deal has COLLAPSED.<\/p>\n<p><strong>MAILBOX:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.football365.com\/news\/mailbox-liverpool-tapped-isak-up-net-spend-newcastle\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Liverpool obviously tapped Isak up before losing their net spend champions crown forever<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u2018Despite medical done and deal sheet submitted, Crystal Palace don\u2019t approve the move following Igor deal off. Guehi stays at #CPFC.\u2019<\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"noopener nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mirror.co.uk\/sport\/football\/transfer-news\/marc-guehi-liverpool-transfer-glasner-35829959\" target=\"_blank\">The Daily Mirror now claims that<\/a> Crystal Palace boss Glasner \u2018won his transfer battle with CEO Steve Parish\u2019 over Guehi after making it clear that he wanted the centre-back to stay at Selhurst Park.<\/p>\n<p>Glasner went as far as \u2018threatening to quit\u2019 if Guehi was sold to Liverpool and the newspaper insist that Parish was \u2018outplayed\u2019 by the Crystal Palace head coach.<\/p>\n<p>The Mirror added: \u2018But despite everything being agreed between all parties and even a deal sheet being handed in to the Premier League shortly before Monday\u2019s 7pm deadline \u2013 giving until 9pm for the move to be fully ratified \u2013 Palace chief Parish pulled the plug, having been outplayed by his head coach.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>The report continued: \u2018On Monday afternoon, Glasner spoke to Guehi, who has been a model professional throughout, and outlined his desire to keep him for the season. I\u2019m glad I\u2019ve got a good club, good teammates around me.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen you focus on what\u2019s important, the football, it makes it a lot easier.
