Liverpool will face competition to sign Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi from Real Madrid and Barcelona in January, according to reports.<\/p>\n
The Reds had a very successful summer transfer window with the signing of Alexander Isak the icing on the cake as a \u00a3125m transfer was confirmed late on deadline day.<\/p>\n
If Isak was the icing, then Guehi would have been the cherry on top, but The Athletic\u2018s David Ornstein broke the news<\/strong><\/a> around 45 minutes after the deadline had passed, that the England international was \u2018set to stay\u2019 at Crystal Palace.<\/p>\n Ornstein added more detail: \u2018The England international, 25, completed at least part of a medical after a fee of \u00a335million was agreed between the clubs. Guehi stays at #CPFC.\u2019<\/p>\n The Daily Mirror now claims that<\/a> Crystal Palace boss Glasner \u2018won his transfer battle with CEO Steve Parish\u2019 over Guehi after making it clear that he wanted the centre-back to stay at Selhurst Park.<\/p>\n Glasner went as far as \u2018threatening to quit\u2019 if Guehi was sold to Liverpool and the newspaper insist that Parish was \u2018outplayed\u2019 by the Crystal Palace head coach.<\/p>\n The Mirror added: \u2018But despite everything being agreed between all parties and even a deal sheet being handed in to the Premier League shortly before Monday\u2019s 7pm deadline \u2013 giving until 9pm for the move to be fully ratified \u2013 Palace chief Parish pulled the plug, having been outplayed by his head coach.\u2019<\/p>\n The report continued: \u2018On Monday afternoon, Glasner spoke to Guehi, who has been a model professional throughout, and outlined his desire to keep him for the season. Guehi understood, wanted to leave but again insisted he wouldn\u2019t kick up a fuss, knowing Liverpool will still be there in January, at a reduced rate, or next summer when he\u2019s a free agent.\u2019<\/p>\n MORE LIVERPOOL COVERAGE ON F365\u2026<\/strong> However, The Sun reckons that Liverpool could have a tougher time luring Guehi to Anfield in the January transfer window \u2018with\u00a0Real Madrid and Barcelona interested\u2019.<\/p>\n After Palace\u2019s 3-0 win over Aston Villa over the weekend, in which he scored, Guehi explained how he dealt with the speculation, he said:\u00a0\u201cI can\u2019t say I like the limelight too much.<\/p>\n \u201cA lot of cameras in my face all the time and constantly talking about me. I\u2019m glad I\u2019ve got a good club, good teammates around me.<\/p>\n \u201cWhen you focus on what\u2019s important, the football, it makes it a lot easier. Glad my family could be there to help me, and the staff, and everyone at Palace, so, yeah it\u2019s good.\u201d<\/p>\n
