{"id":387158,"date":"2026-03-16T00:56:31","date_gmt":"2026-03-16T00:56:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/387158\/"},"modified":"2026-03-16T00:56:31","modified_gmt":"2026-03-16T00:56:31","slug":"trumps-clean-energy-assault-sinks-solar-installation-numbers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/387158\/","title":{"rendered":"Trump&#8217;s Clean Energy &#8216;Assault&#8217; Sinks Solar Installation Numbers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"speakable\">While solar capacity additions remained the top U.S. source of new power for the fifth consecutive year in 2025, installations slumped by 14% last year, as the Trump Administration\u2019s assault on clean energy restricted tax credit timelines while tariffs and permitting uncertainty added to investor concerns.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The U.S. installed 43.2 gigawatts direct current (GWdc) of solar power capacity in 2025, down by 14% from 2024, a new report by the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) and Wood Mackenzie <a href=\"https:\/\/seia.org\/research-resources\/us-solar-market-insight\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">showed<\/a> on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>The utility-scale segment installed 34.7 GWdc in 2025, down by 16% from a year earlier as substantially fewer projects that were originally slated to come online in the fourth quarter actually started up. The utility-scale sector shrank by nearly 40% quarter-over-quarter in the fourth quarter.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Roughnecks-Riches-Start-Up-American-Fracking\/dp\/B0FCDBHGSW\" class=\"charts_banner_clicked charts_banner_add_view\" data-banner_id=\"38\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"not_lightbox\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/book.jpg\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cDue to the changes in tax credit deadlines, developers delayed commercial operation dates and focused on safe harboring their pipeline,\u201d the report said.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Under the Trump Administration\u2019s One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA), wind and solar projects must begin construction no later than July 4, 2026, to qualify for Investment Tax Credit (ITC) or Production Tax Credit (PTC). Projects that miss this deadline must be fully placed in service by December 31, 2027, to remain eligible for tax credits.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/oilprice.com\/Energy\/Energy-General\/Little-Known-US-Company-Lands-Important-Pentagon-Contract-in-Rare-Earth-Race.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Related: <\/strong><strong>Little-Known US Company Lands Important Pentagon Contract in Rare Earth Race<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Despite the lower capacity additions, solar accounted for 54% of all new electricity-generating capacity added to the U.S. grid in 2025.
