{"id":39210,"date":"2025-09-02T18:48:08","date_gmt":"2025-09-02T18:48:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/39210\/"},"modified":"2025-09-02T18:48:08","modified_gmt":"2025-09-02T18:48:08","slug":"siu-plant-genomics-genetics-specialist-named-researcher-to-know-agrinews","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/39210\/","title":{"rendered":"SIU plant genomics, genetics specialist named \u2018Researcher to Know\u2019 \u2013 AgriNews"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-xb1qmn-0 gBIiEi body-paragraph\">CARBONDALE, Ill. \u2014 Khalid Meksem, a distinguished professor of genome biotechnology and genetics at Southern Illinois University Carbondale, is one of 12 scientists named a 2025 Researcher to Know by the Illinois Science and Technology Coalition.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-xb1qmn-0 gBIiEi body-paragraph\">Meksem\u2019s research focuses on using genomics, genetics and molecular biology to instill disease resistance in plants particularly to nematodes, boost crop yields and increase protein and oil content of soybean seeds.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-xb1qmn-0 gBIiEi body-paragraph\">He is also investigating how to improve crops\u2019 resilience to climate change.
