{"id":392107,"date":"2026-03-18T21:55:23","date_gmt":"2026-03-18T21:55:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/392107\/"},"modified":"2026-03-18T21:55:23","modified_gmt":"2026-03-18T21:55:23","slug":"call-made-to-bring-90-minute-bus-ticketing-to-limerick-city-network","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/392107\/","title":{"rendered":"Call made to bring 90 minute bus ticketing to Limerick City network"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A REQUEST is to be made to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.limerickleader.ie\/section\/230\/community\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">transport<\/a> bosses to change the way buses in Limerick City are ticketed.<\/p>\n<p>Independent councillor Elena Secas wants to see the TFI 90 fare system, used in Dublin, expanded to Limerick.<\/p>\n<p>This will allow bus users to be covered by one single fare, no matter how many city buses they take within 90 minutes.<\/p>\n<p>Cllr Secas said making bus travel more affordable will get people out of their cars and reduce congestion on the road.<\/p>\n<p>At present, passengers using a Leap card must pay \u20ac1.35 for each journey &#8211; meaning a journey from Caherdavin to Castletroy would cost \u20ac2.70, as two buses will need to be boarded.<\/p>\n<p><strong>READ MORE:\u00a0<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.limerickleader.ie\/news\/crime-and-courts\/2036907\/limerick-man-convicted-for-brawl-in-sit-down-city-coffee-shop.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Limerick man convicted for brawl in sit-down city coffee shop<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Alternatively, bus users can purchase a 24-hour ticket for \u20ac3.60.<\/p>\n<p>Councillor Shane Hickey-O\u2019Mara seconded Cllr Secas&#8217;s motion at this month&#8217;s metropolitan meeting.<\/p>\n<p>It was also supported by councillors Ursula Gavan and Maria Donoghue.<\/p>\n<p>Fine Gael\u2019s Peter Doyle said it\u2019s \u201cunbelievable\u201d contactless bank cards cannot be used on local buses.<\/p>\n<p>Only TFI Leap cards or cash can be used to buy tickets.<\/p>\n<p>Elsewhere, council will also write to\u00a0Transport for Ireland to request they formally add a stop to the 304A bus route.<\/p>\n<p>Labour councillor Padraigh Reale saw a motion passed calling for the addition of a stop located at the junction of Pennywell Road\/Clare Street\/Dublin Road.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile it is acknowledged that most drivers recognise this stop and do allow people to alight here some drivers have continued on to the stop at St John&#8217;s Hospital causing inconvenience to some users and general confusion.
