Robin Wright<\/a> and Sean Penn\u2019s two children are grown now, but the \u201cHouse of Cards\u201d star is reflecting on one major regret she has about raising them.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have a huge regret as a mother and have experienced the fallout of this regret for many years with my kids \u2014 I wasn\u2019t hard enough on them,\u201d Wright said in a new interview with the Sunday Times<\/a>. <\/p>\n

Wright, who was married to Penn from 1996 to 2010, said that her Oscar-winning ex was tougher on the kids, \u201cbut he was gone so much of the time.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019d come back and be the policeman and then he\u2019d leave me with the residue,\u201d Wright shared. \u201cThen I would soften the blow. We were both extremes. They didn\u2019t get that grey area in the middle, which is stern, and that is what they needed.\u201d <\/p>\n

The two actors share a 34-year-old daughter, Dylan, and a son named Hopper, 32. <\/p>\n

\u201cEvery day if the phone rings you\u2019re, like, \u2018Is he alive? Is she alive?\u2019\u201d the \u201cPrincess Bride\u201d star said of her concerns. \u201cI went through that for so many years with both of them.\u201d <\/p>\n

She said that both of her children are \u201cin a really good place right now.\u201d <\/p>\n

Penn has previously opened up about the differences he and Wright encountered during their co-parenting journey. <\/p>\n
