{"id":392336,"date":"2026-03-19T00:55:12","date_gmt":"2026-03-19T00:55:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/392336\/"},"modified":"2026-03-19T00:55:12","modified_gmt":"2026-03-19T00:55:12","slug":"limerick-staff-unable-to-login-to-work-devices-after-cyberattack-from-hacker-group","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/392336\/","title":{"rendered":"Limerick staff unable to login to work devices after cyberattack from hacker group"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>STAFF working at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.limerickleader.ie\/section\/233\/business\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Stryker<\/a> in Raheen were unable to log onto their work devices after the firm\u2019s computer systems were impacted by a cyber-attack, it\u2019s understood.<\/p>\n<p>The firm, which employs close to 1,000 in Limerick and also has bases in Cork and Belfast, was hit by what is known as a \u2018wiper\u2019 attack.<\/p>\n<p>This means it destroys data rather than asking for ransom.<\/p>\n<p>Handala, a group believed to be linked to Iran, has claimed responsibility for the attack.<\/p>\n<p><strong>BREAKING:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.limerickleader.ie\/news\/home\/2041409\/breaking-man-50s-in-serious-condition-after-st-patrick-s-day-stabbing-in-limerick.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Man, 50s, in \u2018serious condition\u2019 after St Patrick&#8217;s Day stabbing in Limerick<\/a><\/p>\n<p>They have stated it is retaliation linked to geopolitical tensions, involving the USA, Israel, and Iran.<\/p>\n<p>Stryker is headquartered in Michigan, USA.<\/p>\n<p>In 2019, it acquired OrthoSpace, an Israeli medical technology firm.<\/p>\n<p>Stryker makes medical equipment and devices which help doctors treat patients, especially in hospitals.<\/p>\n<p>Its facility in Limerick focuses mainly on orthopedic devices like knee replacements and bone cement.<\/p>\n<p>The impact of the cyber-attack locally is not fully known, with Stryker not returning a request for comment from Limerick Live this week.<\/p>\n<p>But a spokesperson for the company, giving an international update, stated: \u201cStryker is experiencing a global network disruption to our Microsoft environment as a result of a cyberattack. We have no indication of ransomware or malware and believe the incident is contained.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Its teams were working round-the-clock to minimise the impact of the attack on its systems following the attack.<\/p>\n<p>By Friday, March 13 the company indicated that its computers were \u201cslowly being fixed\u201d and the cyber-attack was \u201cfully contained\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Chief executive Kevin Lobo said in a statement: \u201cWe believe that this attack did not involve ransomware or malware, meaning there is no risk of system contamination. Our employees and our sites are safe.
