makes Premier League rivals &#8216;bitter&#8217; after deadline day snub"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Aston Villa are reportedly \u2018bitter\u2019 after Manchester United won the race for Royal Antwerp goalkeeper Senne Lammens, despite offering more money for the 23-year-old.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.football365.com\/news\/man-utd-two-reasons-martinez-lammens-decision-revealed-sources-claim-one-star-will-go\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Unai Emery\u2019s side had targeted Lammens on deadline day<\/strong><\/a> amid uncertainty surrounding the future of first-choice goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.football365.com\/manchester-united\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Man United<\/strong><\/a> had registered interest in signing the Belgian shot-stopper earlier last month but didn\u2019t agree a deal until the final hours of the summer transfer window.<\/p>\n<p>There was the possibility of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.football365.com\/news\/man-utd-jadon-sancho-blocked-signing-emi-martinez-transfer-deadline-day\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Martinez ending up at Old Trafford<\/strong><\/a> and Villa replacing him with Lammens, but the former has stayed at Villa Park despite making it clear he wanted to leave back in May.<\/p>\n<p>He\u2019s been left with egg on his face, while the Red Devils have improved their goalkeeper depth with the addition of Lammens, who\u2019s not expected to come straight into Ruben Amorim\u2019s starting XI.<\/p>\n<p><strong>F365 SAYS:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.football365.com\/news\/opinion-man-utd-man-city-deal-sheet-lammens-donnarumma-swap-suitable-goalkeepers\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Man Utd and Man City are signing goalkeepers ill-suited to who and where they are<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Andre Onana has been the club\u2019s first choice since the start of 2023\/24, but Amorim has preferred Altay Bayindir at the start of the season, keeping faith in the Turkish international after a mistake led to the only goal of the game in their Premier League opener against <a href=\"https:\/\/www.football365.com\/arsenal\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Arsenal<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Bayindir started at Fulham and then against Burnley on Saturday as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.football365.com\/news\/man-utd-avoid-further-humiliation-tottenham-spursy-blackout\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>United earned their first win of the season<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s unclear who Amorim\u2019s long-term No.1 will be, but the expectation is that Lammens will have to work for the shirt.<\/p>\n<p>He might not have to work that hard, though. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.football365.com\/tag\/ruben-amorim\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Amorim<\/strong><\/a> clearly doesn\u2019t rate Onana and Bayindir is worryingly error-prone.<\/p>\n<p>United\u2019s first game after the international break is away to Manchester City, which does suggest he won\u2019t be thrown straight in.<\/p>\n<p>Villa, meanwhile, are searching for their first goal and win of the season after drawing with Newcastle United and losing against Brentford and Crystal Palace.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s been a miserable start to 2025\/26 for them, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.football365.com\/news\/transfer-wind-summer-2025-losers-manchester-united-city-goalkeepers-leeds-newcastle-aston-villa\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>and their transfer business hasn\u2019t given the fans much to be excited about<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The goalkeeper deadline day debacle rubbed salt in the wounds for the club\u2019s supporters, with Lammens joining United for a fee below what the Villans offered Antwerp.<\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/sport\/football\/article-15058463\/MAN-UNITED-CONFIDENTIAL-Aston-Villa-bitter-cut-price-Senne-Lammens-latest-Chido-Obi-Instagram-wipe.html\" target=\"_blank\">That\u2019s according to the Daily Mail<\/a>, where it\u2019s claimed that Lammens joined United for\u00a0\u00a318.2m plus \u00a33.5m in add-ons, and pushed for his \u2018dream move\u2019 to Old Trafford that left Martinez in limbo and Villa feeling \u2018bitter\u2019 after making a \u2018higher\u2019 bid.<\/p>\n<p>It all comes down to \u2018pulling power\u2019, which still gives the Red Devils \u2018a crucial advantage in the transfer window\u2019, despite back-to-back all-time worst Premier League seasons.<\/p>\n<p>Other examples cited are Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko, who both snubbed interest from elsewhere to move to Old Trafford.<\/p>\n<p>After joining the Red Devils, Lammens said: \u201cIn my team in Antwerp, there were some players who were also in England and, when I talked to them about Manchester United, you could directly see their face change.
