\n\t\u201cSinister\u201d and \u201cThe Black Phone\u201d director Scott Derrickson<\/a> called out the Oscars<\/a> on X for excluding his frequent collaborator James Ransone<\/a> from this year\u2019s televised In Memoriam section. Ransone died by suicide in December at 46 years old. The actor starred in both of Derrickson\u2019s aforementioned horror movies and their sequels, plus projects such as \u201cIt: Chapter Two,\u201d \u201cTangerine\u201d and the HBO miniseries \u201cGeneration Kill.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThe Oscars In Memoriam ignored him but I cannot,\u201d wrote Derrickson, who also helmed Marvel\u2019s first \u201cDoctor Strange\u201d movie. \u201cHe was my friend. I put him in five films. In early January I buried James \u2018PJ\u2019 Ransone after he committed suicide\u2026 He was a complex, funny, talented and undeniably reckless person. He was wildly alive and deeply loved. I know he said some infuriating things online, but the last time I saw him, he cried with regret for all of that. \u2018I didn\u2019t mean to hurt anyone\u2019s feelings,\u2019 he said. Please don\u2019t trash him here. He is dearly missed.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tRansone was also well known for playing dock worker-turned-petty criminal Chester \u201cZiggy\u201d Sabotka in 12 episodes of \u201cThe Wire\u201d Season 2. His other TV credits included \u201cPoker Face,\u201d \u201cSeal Team,\u201d \u201c50 States of Fright\u201d and \u201cThe First.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tRansone was one of several notable omissions in the Oscars\u2019 televised In Memorian section. Other actors excluded from the ceremony<\/a> included James Van Der Beek, Eric Dane, Brigitte Bardot, Malcolm-Jamal Warner, Robert Carradine, \u201cHarold and Maude\u201d star Bud Cort and more. <\/p>\n

\n\tThe Oscars\u2019 In Memoriam section this year was expanded during the live ceremony to include larger tributes to Robert Redford courtesy of Barbra Streisand singing \u201cThe Way We Were,\u201d Diane Keaton via a lovely speech from her \u201cThe Family Stone\u201d co-star Rachel McAdams and Rob Reiner, who was feted by his friend and collaborator Billy Crystal. Reiner\u2019s tribute resulted in one of the ceremony\u2019s most emotional moments as dozens of actors<\/a> from the late director\u2019s movies joined Crystal on stage, from Kathy Bates to Meg Ryan, Jerry O\u2019Connell, Annette Bening and more. <\/p>\n
