{"id":394854,"date":"2026-03-20T11:11:15","date_gmt":"2026-03-20T11:11:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/394854\/"},"modified":"2026-03-20T11:11:15","modified_gmt":"2026-03-20T11:11:15","slug":"councillor-says-cork-council-should-get-its-sht-together-over-shock-dog-poo-poster","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/394854\/","title":{"rendered":"Councillor says Cork council should get its sh*t together over &#8216;shock&#8217; dog poo poster"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"\">Cork City Council is preparing to circulate posters encouraging people to clean up after their dog with a controversial new slogan: \u201cGet your sh*t together\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">A draft poster for the campaign, which will be formally launched soon, shows the letters s and h, followed by a graphic of a dog doing a poo in place of the letter i, then a letter t.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The new slogan was approved by four of the dog fouling committee\u2019s five members present; Fine Gael\u2019s Joe Kavanagh, the chair, the Green Party\u2019s Dan Boyle and Oliver Moran, and Fianna F\u00e1il\u2019s Margaret McDonnell.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Sinn F\u00e9in councillor Michelle Gould told  The Echo that she was the only one to vote against it, saying: \u201cI think it\u2019s encouraging children to curse. This is going to be put up on bus shelters, parks \u2013 I don\u2019t think it\u2019s appropriate.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\n            \u201cI think it\u2019s fair for people to say Cork City Council needs to get its sh*t together. Dog fouling is an issue, it was one of the top five complaints when I was canvassing, and we need to be educating but also providing more bins in local communities \u2013 that\u2019s the road we should be going down, not shock posters.\u201d Mr Kavanagh said that the postering campaign was about \u201cincreasing public awareness of the dangers of dog fouling in public areas\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">A city council spokesperson said: \u201cDog fouling is a serious public nuisance and a health risk.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cSecuring a prosecution against dog owners for the offence of dog fouling is very difficult so we need to encourage behavioural change.
