height: auto; display: block;\" loading=\"eager\" fetchpriority=\"high\" width=\"852\" height=\"479\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/new-museum-extension-new-york-city-oma_dezeen_2364_hero_1-852x479.jpg\" class=\"attachment-article_large_image size-article_large_image nolazy\" alt=\"New Museum extension by OMA\" decoding=\"async\"  data-pin-nopin=\"true\"\/>    <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/this-week-on-dezeen\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">This week on Dezeen<\/a>, we revealed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/2026\/03\/18\/oma-new-museum-new-york-extension\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">OMA&#8217;s angular expansion of the\u00a0SANAA-designed New Museum<\/a> in Manhattan, New York.<\/p>\n<p>The extension doubles the museum&#8217;s footprint with added galleries and social spaces, which are concealed behind a facade that was designed to have a unique appearance compared to its blocky predecessor.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/2026\/03\/17\/corinthian-columns-white-house-commission-fine-arts-rodney-mims-cook\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2306492 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/the-white-house-portico-collumns-hero-852x479.jpg\" alt=\"White house Portico Collumns\" width=\"2364\" height=\"1330\"   loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/2026\/03\/17\/corinthian-columns-white-house-commission-fine-arts-rodney-mims-cook\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Also this week, Corinthian columns were proposed for the White House<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Controversy over the development of White House continued this week, as Commission of Fine Arts chair Rodney Mims Cook Jr suggested <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/2026\/03\/17\/corinthian-columns-white-house-commission-fine-arts-rodney-mims-cook\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">swapping the building&#8217;s Ionic columns for Corinthian<\/a> to match the\u00a0in-progress ballroom extension.<\/p>\n<p>Also as part of US president Donald Trump&#8217;s revamp of the White House, architecture studio AECOM unveiled its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/2026\/03\/17\/subterranean-white-house-visitor-screening-centre-donald-trump\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">design for a subterranean visitor screening centre<\/a>, which would be built under the nearby Sherman Park.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/2026\/03\/19\/edward-peck-chicago-bears-concept-design-soldier-field\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2307505 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/edward-peck-soldier-field-concept-proposals_dezeen_2364_hero-852x479.jpg\" alt=\"Futuristic Soldier Field concept\" width=\"2364\" height=\"1330\"   loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/2026\/03\/19\/edward-peck-chicago-bears-concept-design-soldier-field\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Edward Peck Design proposed a translucent canopy for the Chicago Bears&#8217; stadium<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Elsewhere in the USA, architecture studio Edward Peck Design revealed its proposal to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/2026\/03\/19\/edward-peck-chicago-bears-concept-design-soldier-field\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">add a translucent canopy to the Chicago Bears&#8217; stadium<\/a> in an effort to convince the NFL\u00a0team to stay in the city.<\/p>\n<p>The concept was developed to show how the existing stadium could be adapted to meet the need for a next-generation stadium, with a roof, expanded seating and an entertainment complex.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/2026\/03\/18\/colosseum-piazza-rome-stefano-boeri-interiors\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2306794 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/colosseum-rome-stefano-boeri-interiors-southern-ambulatory-areas_dezeen_2364_hero_11-852x479.jpg\" alt=\"Colosseum piazza by Stefano Boeri Interiors\" width=\"2364\" height=\"1329\"   loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/2026\/03\/18\/colosseum-piazza-rome-stefano-boeri-interiors\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Public space outside the Colosseum was revamped by Stefano Boeri Interiors<\/a><\/p>\n<p>In other architecture news, Italian studio <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/2026\/03\/18\/colosseum-piazza-rome-stefano-boeri-interiors\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Stefano Boeri Interiors revamped a piazza outside the Colosseum<\/a> in Rome.<\/p>\n<p>The semicircular outdoor space features 44 raised stone benches, which were placed to mark the footprints of original columns that once stood on the ancient Roman site.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/2026\/03\/16\/plastic-bottles-recycled-into-parkinsons-drug-using-bacteria\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2305891 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/stephen-wallace-university-edinburgh-plastic-bioupcycling-technology_dezeen_2364_hero-852x479.jpg\" alt=\"Professor Stephen Wallace at the University of Edinburgh\" width=\"2364\" height=\"1329\"   loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/2026\/03\/16\/plastic-bottles-recycled-into-parkinsons-drug-using-bacteria\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Researchers recycled plastic bottles into a Parkinson&#8217;s drug using bacteria<\/a><\/p>\n<p>University of Edinburgh researchers made advances in &#8220;bio-upcycling&#8221; this week, when they successfully <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/2026\/03\/16\/plastic-bottles-recycled-into-parkinsons-drug-using-bacteria\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">used\u00a0bacteria\u00a0to turn\u00a0plastic waste into a Parkinson&#8217;s drug<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The process involved breaking down polyethylene terephthalate (PET) plastic and feeding it to genetically engineered E. coli bacteria, which built it back up again with a different molecular structure to form the drug L-DOPA.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/2026\/03\/16\/jaime-prous-architects-pineda-monedero-casa-144-barcelona-home\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2305877 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/jaime-prous-architects-pineda-monedero-casa-144-barcelona-hero_dezeen_2364_col_1-852x479.jpg\" alt=\"Casa 144\u00ba by Jaime Prous Architects and Pineda &amp;
