{"id":397024,"date":"2026-03-21T18:46:15","date_gmt":"2026-03-21T18:46:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/397024\/"},"modified":"2026-03-21T18:46:15","modified_gmt":"2026-03-21T18:46:15","slug":"house-at-the-edge-frames-living-tableaux-of-forest-in-france","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/397024\/","title":{"rendered":"House at the Edge frames &#8220;living tableaux&#8221; of forest in France"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>French studio In Sinu Architectes has renovated and extended a woodland <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/houses\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">house<\/a> in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/France\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">France<\/a>, adding large windows to frame painting-like views of the surroundings.<\/p>\n<p>The home is named Maison de l&#8217;Or\u00e9e, or House at the Edge, after its position on the edge of the Fontainebleau forest \u2013 a landscape to the southeast of Paris made famous by painters including Paul Cezanne and Th\u00e9odore Rousseau.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2307544 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/maison-de-loree-in-sinu-architectes-residential-houses-france-renovation-extension_dezeen_2364_col_3.jpeg\" alt=\"Woodland home in France\" width=\"1773\" height=\"2364\"   loading=\"lazy\"\/>In Sinu Architectes has created House at the Edge in France<\/p>\n<p>Despite its picturesque setting, the existing home did not address the woodland, and so <a href=\"https:\/\/www.insinuarchitectes.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">In Sinu Architectes<\/a>\u00a0was tasked with opening it up to these natural surroundings.<\/p>\n<p>The local studio added two extensions to creat e a U-shaped plan that hugs the forest, with large windows framing what it termed &#8220;living tableaux&#8221; of the landscape.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2307514 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/maison-de-loree-in-sinu-architectes-residential-houses-france-renovation-extension_dezeen_2364_col_6.jpeg\" alt=\"House at the Edge (Maison de l'Or\u00e9e) by In Sinu Architectes\" width=\"1773\" height=\"2364\"   loading=\"lazy\"\/>It was designed to frame &#8220;living tableaux&#8221; of the forest<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The main challenge was to intervene delicately within this strong natural context, opening the building to the forest while maintaining balanced proportions and controlled views,&#8221; studio founders Cassandre Verdier and Elena Cadouin told Dezeen.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The extensions were positioned with the existing trees as a key constraint, ensuring that none were removed,&#8221; they added.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;One of the major gestures of the project lies in the design of the openings, conceived as frames onto the forest and creating living tableaux, echoing the iconic Impressionist paintings inspired by the Fontainebleau forest.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2307525 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/maison-de-loree-in-sinu-architectes-residential-houses-france-renovation-extension_dezeen_2364_col_1.jpeg\" alt=\"A wood-lined kitchen with stainless steel island\" width=\"1773\" height=\"2364\"   loading=\"lazy\"\/>A stainless steel kitchen island\u00a0contrasts with wooden finishes<\/p>\n<p>The two timber-framed extensions connect to either end of the existing structure. One of these contains a study and continues the gabled roof of the existing house, while the other contains a dining area finished with a flat roof.<\/p>\n<p>These extensions flank a small courtyard created at the centre of the home, where a formerly blank wall has been replaced with a row of glass doors that connect the central living space directly to the forest.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/2026\/01\/26\/hauvette-madani-architecture-nature-paris-apartment\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><br \/>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<img width=\"191\" height=\"191\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/paris-house-hauvette-madani-sq2-191x191.jpg\" class=\"excludeLightbox wp-post-image\" alt=\"Paris house by Hauvette &amp; Madani\" decoding=\"async\" data-pin-nopin=\"true\"   loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p> Hauvette &amp; Madani uses &#8220;architecture as a frame for nature&#8221; in Parisian home\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Both the old and new parts of the home have been united with timber cladding, with latticework sections introduced at the tops of windows and in the new gable end to allow light to filter in during the day and out at night.<\/p>\n<p>Inside, the living area is organised around a fireplace built from a large slab of local Fontainebleau sandstone, accompanied by custom-made wooden furniture pieces intended to echo the textures and colours of the trees outside.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2307540 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/1774118775_523_maison-de-loree-in-sinu-architectes-residential-houses-france-renovation-extension_dezeen_2364_col_3.jpeg\" alt=\"House at the Edge (Maison de l'Or\u00e9e) by In Sinu Architectes\" width=\"1773\" height=\"2364\"   loading=\"lazy\"\/>One of the extensions has a gable end with a large window<\/p>\n<p>These furnishings are contrasted by a stainless steel kitchen island that was introduced to &#8220;reflect the light and movement&#8221; of the trees through the home&#8217;s large, black metal window frames.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The project brings together architecture, interior spaces, and furniture in a continuous and sensitive expression,&#8221; said Verdier and Cadouin.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The custom-made furniture pieces strengthen the intimate connection between the house and its site.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Elsewhere in France, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/2026\/01\/26\/hauvette-madani-architecture-nature-paris-apartment\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">local studio Hauvette &amp;
