David Spade\u00a0is calling out California\u2019s leadership for the collapse of Hollywood<\/a>.<\/p>\n

During a recent episode of his podcast, \u201cFly on the Wall<\/a>,\u201d which he co-hosts with Dana Carvey, the 61-year-old actor and comedian said \u201cthe Hollywood industry is dying\u201d and that he\u2019s \u201cjust trying to put the blame somewhere.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cDude, I\u2019m so old,\u201d he said. \u201cI was on the lot at, uh, CBS Radford when we were doing \u2018Just Shoot Me\u2019\u2026 And also they were doing \u2018Seinfeld,\u2019 and I\u2019d see him on his bike. <\/p>\n

\u201cIt was the greatest lot. Of course, just filed for bankruptcy, the lot. Terrifying in L.A. Thanks, [LA Mayor] Karen Bass. Thanks, [Gov.] Gavin [Newsom]<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n

Carvey agreed that \u201cthe Hollywood studio system is dying,\u201d and insisted changes need to be made in order to revive it.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe amount of productions is dying, and so they have to do something so more production comes back, and that starts with negotiating with the union and also subsidizing the industry tax breaks to compete with Romania,\u201d Carvey said.<\/p>\n

Spade and Carvey are not the only celebrities concerned with the current state of Hollywood<\/a> and the growing trend of producing movies and TV shows not only in other states, but also in other countries.<\/p>\n

Stars Jon Voight,\u00a0Sylvester Stallone<\/a>\u00a0and Mel Gibson were named special ambassadors to Hollywood by President Donald Trump in January 2025, with the hope of bringing the city \u201cBACK\u2014BIGGER, BETTER, AND STRONGER THAN EVER BEFORE!\u201d according to Trump\u2019s post on Truth Social at the time.<\/p>\n

In an interview with\u00a0Variety\u00a0in May 2025, Voight spoke about the importance of bringing these jobs back to California, and showed his support for Trump\u2019s decision<\/a> to place 100% tariffs on filming overseas.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s come to a point where we really do need help, and thank God the president cares about Hollywood and movies,\u201d Voight said. \u201cHe has a great love for Hollywood in that way. We\u2019ve got to roll up our sleeves here. We can\u2019t let it\u00a0go down the drain like Detroit.\u201d<\/p>\n

In reference to the alleged demise of Hollywood, Spade sarcastically said \u201cThanks, [Gov.] Gavin [Newsom].\u201d Getty Images<\/p>\n

When speaking to the outlet, Voight explained that \u201cevery studio has a lot of smart people\u201d who have made use of the many benefits \u201cand the gifts that are being given out throughout the world to lure people to different countries.\u201d<\/p>\n

He explained that rather than just \u201clevel[ing] the playing field,\u201d Hollywood \u201cneed[s] to be competitive\u201d in order to get people back.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis shouldn\u2019t be political,\u201d Voight added. \u201cI don\u2019t know the political identities of the people we\u2019ve talked to. We\u2019ve talked to a lot of people here. I don\u2019t distinguish them on their party affiliation. And If we can come up with [a plan that can be executed], he\u2019ll back us. He wants us to be the Hollywood of old. If we all come together, I believe we have a bright future.\u201d<\/p>\n

In a previous statement to Fox News Digital, Voight said he has been in the business long enough to see the \u201cslow deterioration\u201d of Hollywood through the years.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m old enough to have touched some years of the\u00a0Golden Age of Hollywood, and I\u2019ve seen its slow deterioration since,\u201d he said. \u201cToday, we are in pretty bad shape. Very few films are made here now, but we are fortunate to have an incoming President, who wants to restore Hollywood to its former glory, and with his help, I feel we can get done.\u201d<\/p>\n

Newsom\u2019s and Bass\u2019s respective offices did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital\u2019s request for comment.<\/p>\n
