The first season debuted in January and aired its season finale on March 12, while the second season recently wrapped production. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cWe\u2019re incredibly proud of the ambition, passion, and creativity that went into bringing \u2018Star Trek: Starfleet Academy\u2019 to life,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/cbs-studios\/\" id=\"auto-tag_cbs-studios\" data-tag=\"cbs-studios\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">CBS Studios<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/paramount-2\/\" id=\"auto-tag_paramount-2\" data-tag=\"paramount-2\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Paramount+<\/a> said in a joint statement. \u201cThe series introduced audiences to a bold new group of characters, welcomed familiar faces, and expanded the \u2018Star Trek\u2019 universe in exciting new ways. We look forward to sharing the upcoming second and final season with everyone, and continuing to celebrate the cast, crew, and all that was accomplished with this series.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThe first season of \u201cStarfleet Academy\u201d reached an 87% critical approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" data-id=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2026\/tv\/reviews\/star-trek-starfleet-academy-review-paramount-plus-1236629682\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2026\/tv\/reviews\/star-trek-starfleet-academy-review-paramount-plus-1236629682\/\">Variety\u2018s Aramide Tinubu<\/a> describing it as a \u201cdelightful entry point\u201d into the franchise. But the show failed to find a significant audience. Across its 10-episode first season, it has failed to rank on the Nielsen Top 10 streaming viewership charts. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cStarfleet Academy\u201d takes place after the events of \u201cStar Trek: Discovery\u201d in the 32nd century. The show follows the first class of students and teachers to attend the newly re-established Starfleet Academy. The cast includes Sandro Rosta, Karim Dian\u00e9, Kerrice Brooks, George Hawkins, Bella Shepard, and Zo\u00eb Steiner, as well as Holly Hunter, Paul Giamatti, Gina Yashere, \u201cStar Trek\u201d voyager alum Robert Picardo, and \u201cDiscovery\u201d star Tig Notaro. Tatiana Maslany appeared in a guest role. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tSeries co-showrunners and executive producers Alex Kurtzman and Noga Landau penned a letter in which they expressed their appreciation to the \u201chundreds of hardworking humans who pour every ounce of their talents\u201d into the making of the show. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cWhether you\u2019re working on \u2018Star Trek\u2019 or part of the marvel that is \u2018Star Trek\u2019 fandom \u2014 its very heart, soul, and conscience \u2014the joy comes from adventuring across boundaries of time, space, and the humanly possible in service to Roddenberry\u2019s transformative vision of the future,\u201d the pair wrote. \u201cThat incomparable vision was fueled by an inexhaustible optimism. \u2018Star Trek\u2019 places its bet on the best in human nature. His current overall deal with CBS Studios via his Secret Hideout production company runs through the end of 2026. According to an individual with knowledge of the situation, Kurtzman and CBS Studios are currently in talks for a new deal that will keep him in the CBS fold. In addition to his work on \u201cStar Trek,\u201d he has produced shows like the \u201cHawaii Five-O\u201d reboot, \u201cScorpion,\u201d and \u201cSalvation.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tIn addition to the upcoming second season of \u201cStarfleet Academy,\u201d there are also two more seasons to come of \u201cStar Trek: Strange New Worlds.\u201d Season 4 of the latter show is expected to be released later this year, while a<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" data-id=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2025\/tv\/news\/star-trek-strange-new-worlds-renewed-final-season-5-1236429020\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2025\/tv\/news\/star-trek-strange-new-worlds-renewed-final-season-5-1236429020\/\"> fifth and final season<\/a> recently completed production. The kids animated series \u201cStar Trek: Scouts\u201d also currently airs on YouTube in partnership with Nickelodeon Digital Studios. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tBeyond that, the future of the franchise remains uncertain. At the time of this publishing, no new shows have been announced as being in development. Paramount is said to remain very high on the \u201cStar Trek\u201d IP, however, with <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" data-id=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2025\/film\/news\/new-star-trek-movie-dungeons-and-dragons-jonathan-goldstein-john-francis-daley-1236582221\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2025\/film\/news\/new-star-trek-movie-dungeons-and-dragons-jonathan-goldstein-john-francis-daley-1236582221\/\">a new \u201cStar Trek\u201d movie<\/a> currently in development. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tAlong with Kurtzman and Landau, \u201cStarfleet Academy\u201d is executive produced by Gaia Violo, Aaron Baiers, Olatunde Osunsanmi, Jenny Lumet, Rod Roddenberry, Trevor Roth, Frank Siracusa and John Weber. The series\u2019 premiere episode was written by Violo and directed by Kurtzman. CBS Studios produces in association with Secret Hideout and Roddenberry Entertainment.
