WINDHOEK, March 23 (Reuters) – Namibia has turned down applications from Elon Musk’s satellite \u200cinternet provider Starlink for a telecommunications service \u200clicence and access to radio spectrum, a notice in \u200bthe Southern African country’s government gazette showed.<\/p>\n
* The notice dated March 23 did not say why Starlink’sapplications were declined. * The Communications Regulatory \u200cAuthority of Namibia \u2060couldreconsider the decisions “on its own motion or on a petitionfiled by \u2060an aggrieved party” within 90 days, the notice added. * A spokesperson for the regulator said \u200ba statement \u200bwould beissued later. * \u200bSpaceX, parent company of \u200cStarlink, did not immediatelyrespond to a request for comment. * Starlink operates in several African countries but hasfaced regulatory challenges in others and resistance from statetelecoms monopolies. * In November 2024, \u200cthe Namibian regulator hit \u200bStarlink witha cease-and-desist order, saying \u200bit had \u200bbeen operating in thecountry without a \u200clicence. * It also warned consumers \u200bagainst purchasing \u200bStarlinkequipment and said it had confiscated illegal terminals fromconsumers.
