{"id":401304,"date":"2026-03-24T12:06:24","date_gmt":"2026-03-24T12:06:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/401304\/"},"modified":"2026-03-24T12:06:24","modified_gmt":"2026-03-24T12:06:24","slug":"pichiavo-builds-temple-to-burn-down-for-valencias-fallas-festival","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/401304\/","title":{"rendered":"PichiAvo builds temple to burn down for Valencia&#8217;s Fallas festival"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Local art studio PichiAvo used <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/wood\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">wood<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/paper\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">paper<\/a> to create a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/pavilions-tag\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">pavilion<\/a> based on an Ancient Greek temple, which was set ablaze for the Fallas celebrations in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/valencia\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Valencia<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Named Per Ofrenar, which means &#8220;to offer&#8221; in Catalan, the installation had a classical design that drew upon the Temple of Athena Nike in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/athens\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Athens<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2308305 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/per-ofrenar-pichiavo-fallas-valencia-temple_dezeen_2364_col_6-852x1278.jpg\" alt=\"Per Ofrenar Fallas temple in Valencia by PichiAvo\" width=\"1576\" height=\"2364\"   loading=\"lazy\"\/>PichiAvo designed a temple-like pavilion to be burnt as part of Fallas festival<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pichiavo.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">PichiAvo<\/a> designed Per Ofrenar for Fallas, an annual five-day festival where wood and paper monuments are exhibited in the streets of Valencia before being set on fire on the final day, La Crem\u00e0, which was on 19 March.<\/p>\n<p>Installed on a street in the centre of the city, its walls, roof and plinth were constructed from wood, while surplus paper from a book by PichiAvo was used for the capitals and bases of the pavilion&#8217;s Ionic columns.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2308311 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/per-ofrenar-pichiavo-fallas-valencia-temple_dezeen_2364_col_12-852x1278.jpg\" alt=\"Per Ofrenar by PichiAvo\" width=\"1576\" height=\"2364\"   loading=\"lazy\"\/>It was made from wood and excess paper from a book by PichiAvo<\/p>\n<p>Inside, two candles were placed atop stacks of PichiAvo&#8217;s surplus paper, which was arranged to form an altar-like space.<\/p>\n<p>Fallas monuments often have sculptural designs that take the shape of satirical figures, but PichiAvo wanted to design a place for people to gather and leave religious offerings.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/2026\/03\/11\/bolster-pavilion-walden-studio\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><br \/>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<img width=\"191\" height=\"191\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/bolster-pavilion-walden-studio-netherlands-sq2_dezeen_2364_col_0-191x191.jpg\" class=\"excludeLightbox wp-post-image\" alt=\"Bolster by Walden Studio\" decoding=\"async\" data-pin-nopin=\"true\"   loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p> Protective seed pods inform timber forest pavilion by Walden Studio\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Per Ofrenar means &#8216;to offer&#8217;, in the sense of making a symbolic, spiritual, or religious offering,&#8221; PichiAvo founders Juan Antonio S\u00e1nchez and \u00c1lvaro Hern\u00e1ndez told Dezeen.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We wanted to create a space specifically designed for that act, a place people could physically enter and leave an offering to the deities.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2308299 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/per-ofrenar-pichiavo-fallas-valencia-temple_dezeen_2364_col_0-852x1278.jpg\" alt=\"Per Ofrenar Fallas temple in Valencia by PichiAvo\" width=\"1576\" height=\"2364\"   loading=\"lazy\"\/>Graffiti was written on the walls of the temple during the festival<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The temple naturally became the most suitable structure to represent this space within our visual language,&#8221;
