She wants to cut back on work this year to have more time to do things as a couple and \u201cenjoy life whilst we are both still able to health wise and financially\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>A September 2024 study \u2013 the latest data available \u2013 by retirement consultancy WTW\u202fshowed that 49 per cent of workers aged 50 or older had either started phasing into retirement or wanted to do so at that time.<\/p>\n<p>Phased retirement is a flexible, gradual transition from full-time work to complete retirement, often allowing individuals aged 55 to 75 to reduce working hours <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?client=internal-element-cse&amp;cx=011782314020777428663:ycznkklrfq5&amp;q=https:\/\/inews.co.uk\/topic\/pensions&amp;sa=U&amp;ved=2ahUKEwiRxN3enJ2TAxVaUaQEHZx6Gd4QFnoECAcQAQ&amp;usg=AOvVaw19rVqYtEvxlaoL7FDhGLYL&amp;fexp=121574863,121574862,73152292,73152290\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">while drawing partial pension benefits<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Up to 75 per cent of pension benefits can be withdrawn \u2013 but doing this can lead to unexpected tax bills, as Julie discovered.<\/p>\n<p>She said: \u201cThere is a local government portal that you can use to get an estimate.
