\u2018The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you\u2019ll go,\u2019 goes the quote, from Dr Seuss, which was adopted to encourage children from Wicklow to take part in the Summer Stars programme for 2025. But the children of Greystones didn\u2019t need much encouragement this year.<\/p>\n

And there were smiles all around in Greystones Library, on Saturday, August 30, when the town\u2019s little bookworms were rewarded for their endeavours having taken part in the Summer Stars public library national summer reading programme.<\/p>\n

The event, for children, is a non-competitive initiative where every child who reads even one book\/e-book is regarded as having completed the programme.<\/p>\n

Participants are given a Summer Stars reading booklet to record and track their own progress, make notes and pictures on the books they have read, and log all of their visits in their local library.<\/p>\n

Greystones librarian David Forde explained: \u201cSummer Stars is the public library national summer reading programme for children that runs from the start of June until the end of August.<\/p>\n

\u201cAll children throughout the country are invited to join the adventure and to enjoy the fun and pleasure of reading and writing over the summer.\u201d<\/p>\n

On Saturday, David, alongside the Cathaoirleach of Greystones Municipal District, Cllr Lourda Scott, presented local children with certificates and medals in recognition of their successful participation in the programme. Parents and guardians were also present to join in the celebrations.<\/p>\n

Cllr Scott posted after the event, and congratulated all who took part. \u201cWell done to all of the busy readers who picked up their certs and medals today. Our library is a fantastic resource and we are very lucky to have such a wonderful facility in the heart of the town.
