(Image credit: Rocket Lab)<\/p>\n<p id=\"c0f4d354-48e2-4146-8ef9-c2bb626897f5\">Celeste is Europe&#8217;s first satellite-navigation effort in <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/low-earth-orbit\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/low-earth-orbit\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/low-earth-orbit\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">low Earth orbit<\/a> (LEO).<\/p>\n<p><a id=\"elk-seasonal\" class=\"paywall\" aria-hidden=\"true\"\/><\/p>\n<p id=\"c0f4d354-48e2-4146-8ef9-c2bb626897f5-1\">The initiative &#8220;will demonstrate how a complementary layer flying closer to Earth can enhance Europe\u2019s current <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/space-exploration\/launches-spacecraft\/arianespace-ariane-6-launch-galileo-33-3\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/space-exploration\/launches-spacecraft\/arianespace-ariane-6-launch-galileo-33-3\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/space-exploration\/launches-spacecraft\/arianespace-ariane-6-launch-galileo-33-3\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Galileo system<\/a> in medium Earth orbit (MEO), boosting the overall resilience, enhancing its performance and opening opportunities for new service capabilities directly from LEO,&#8221; ESA officials wrote in a <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.esa.int\/Applications\/Satellite_navigation\/Watch_live_First_Celeste_launch\" target=\"_blank\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.esa.int\/Applications\/Satellite_navigation\/Watch_live_First_Celeste_launch\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">description of Wednesday&#8217;s launch<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The first phase of the Celeste program will loft a demonstration constellation of 11 satellites. The satellites going up on Wednesday are the first two of that group.<\/p>\n<p id=\"7547680c-7c27-4277-900b-b184e7929849\">If all goes according to plan on Wednesday&#8217;s launch, which Rocket Lab calls &#8220;Daughter of the Stars,&#8221; Electron will deliver the two <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/24839-satellites.html\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/24839-satellites.html\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/24839-satellites.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">satellites<\/a> to a circular orbit 510 kilometers (317 miles) above Earth.
