{"id":402486,"date":"2026-03-25T04:19:12","date_gmt":"2026-03-25T04:19:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/402486\/"},"modified":"2026-03-25T04:19:12","modified_gmt":"2026-03-25T04:19:12","slug":"us-to-deploy-3000-extra-soldiers-to-middle-east-as-trump-claims-to-have-won-iran-war-the-irish-times","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/402486\/","title":{"rendered":"US to deploy 3,000 extra soldiers to Middle East as Trump claims to have \u2018won\u2019 Iran war \u2013 The Irish Times"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/united-states\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/united-states\/\">US<\/a> is poised to deploy about 3,000 additional soldiers from its elite 82nd airborne division to the Middle East even as the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/trump-presidency\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/trump-presidency\">Trump administration<\/a> seeks talks with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/iran\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/iran\">Iran<\/a> over ending the war.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The US and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/israel\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/israel\/\">Israel<\/a> continued air strikes across Iran on Tuesday, day 25 of the war, with the Iranian Red Crescent reporting more than 82,000 civilian buildings have been hit in air strikes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Israel and Gulf Arab states on Tuesday suffered waves of rockets and drones fired by a defiant Tehran. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Amid speculation over contacts to end the fighting, US president <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/donald-trump\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/donald-trump\/\">Donald Trump<\/a> repeated his assertion on Tuesday night that Iran wants a ceasefire. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">\u201cTheir leaders are all gone but we are actually talking to the right people and they want to make a deal so badly,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Trump insisted the US was having \u201ctremendous success\u201d in Iran and had \u201cwon the war\u201d, and claimed that Iran had made a major \u201cenergy-related gift\u201d to the US.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Iran\u2019s military commander, Maj Gen Ali Abdollahi Aliabadi, however, vowed to fight until \u201ccomplete victory\u201d, mocking the US as a \u201chollow nation that has been brought down in front of the world\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The country\u2019s foreign minister, Abbas Aragchi, said it was \u201ccommitted to a comprehensive ceasefire, not just a temporary one\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" data-chromatic=\"ignore\" alt=\"Taoiseach Miche&#xE1;l Martin said on Tuesday that the Iran war had brought about 'the greatest oil supply shock ever in the history of the markets'. Photograph: Stephen Collins\/Collins <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">In Dublin, Taoiseach <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/micheal-martin\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/micheal-martin\/\">Miche\u00e1l Martin<\/a> urged fuel retailers to ensure tax cuts, introduced to offset the effects of the war on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/energy-costs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/energy-costs\">energy prices<\/a>, were passed on to motorists. He also encouraged householders to conserve energy.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The Government unveiled a \u20ac250 million package of temporary <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/cost-of-living\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/cost-of-living\/\">cost of living<\/a> supports aimed at easing the impact.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">They include an excise cut on petrol and diesel that took effect last night, and a four-week extension to the fuel allowance payment for vulnerable households. Sinn F\u00e9in leader Mary Lou McDonald said the Government had \u201cabandoned\u201d 750,000 households relying on home-heating oil claiming the supports were \u201chalf measures\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Martin said the war had brought about \u201cthe greatest oil supply shock ever in the history of the markets\u201d. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Meanwhile, Pakistan\u2019s prime minister \u200cShehbaz Sharif said he was willing to host negotiations between the US and Iran on ending the war, a day after Trump postponed threats to bomb Iranian power plants for five days after what he called \u201cproductive\u201d talks.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Saudi crown prince Mohammed bin Salman has reportedly been urging Trump to continue the war, citing people briefed by US officials.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" data-chromatic=\"ignore\" alt=\"Trump and Saudi crown prince Mohammed bin Salman in the White House in November 2025.
