Thailand, the second largest economy in Southeast Asia, recorded 20.1 million foreign arrivals from Jan. 1 to Aug. 10, generating 937.6 billion baht (US$28.8 billion) in revenue.\t<\/p>\n

The top five source markets during the period were China (2.83 million), Malaysia (2.78 million), India(1.4 million), Russia (1.14 million), and South Korea (950,692), according to the Ministry of Tourism and Sports.<\/p>\n

The number of foreign arrivals is expected to rise further in the coming weeks, bolstered by ongoing school holidays in Europe and East Asia, particularly in China and Japan, alongside the rollout of tourism campaigns, Bangkok Post reported.<\/p>\n

Last week saw a significant uptick in arrivals across all market segments, driven by summer holidays and consecutive public holidays in Japan.<\/p>\n

Japanese tourist numbers saw an impressive weekly increase of over 86.3%, propelling them from fifth to third place in the weekly arrivals ranking.<\/p>\n

Previously, Thailand\u2019s Finance Ministry cut its forecast for foreign tourist arrivals this year to 34.5 million from 36.5 million, still far below the record figure of nearly 40 million in 2019, before the Covid pandemic.<\/p>\n
