{"id":405859,"date":"2026-03-27T00:58:11","date_gmt":"2026-03-27T00:58:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/405859\/"},"modified":"2026-03-27T00:58:11","modified_gmt":"2026-03-27T00:58:11","slug":"a-limerick-driver-who-crashed-his-car-was-given-the-benefit-of-a-probation-report","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/405859\/","title":{"rendered":"A Limerick driver who crashed his car was given the benefit of a probation report"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A POSITIVE probation report for a man charged with three road traffic offences was viewed favourably by the district <a href=\"https:\/\/www.limerickleader.ie\/section\/463\/crime-court\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">court<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Newcastle West District Court heard that on July 20, 2024, on the main street in Pallaskenry at just after 11pm, Luke O&#8217;Brien of Lisheen Park, Patrickswell, crashed the car he was driving and garda\u00ed observed a number of offences.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The court heard that the matter had been adjourned for the preparation of a probation report, which Judge Carol Anne Coolican described as being \u201ccomprehensive.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Representing Mr O&#8217;Brien, his solicitor Andrew d&#8217;Arcy told the court that his client had an acquired brain injury from an assault, which happened in 2017.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He said that because of this, he has complex physical and medical health needs, as well as learning needs.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Mr d&#8217;Arcy told the court that his client is working full-time and while he was battling with addiction, he is now \u201con a clear path and alcohol free.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>READ ALSO:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.limerickleader.ie\/news\/crime-and-courts\/2047029\/prosecution-against-three-limerick-gardai-will-not-go-ahead.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Prosecution against three Limerick garda\u00ed will not go ahead<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe is continuing to work and is putting his best foot forward,\u201d Mr d&#8217;Arcy said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The court heard that Mr O&#8217;Brien has five previous convictions for no insurance and no licence.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Judge Carol Anne Coolican convicted and fined Mr O&#8217;Brien \u20ac200 giving him 12 months to pay, and also disqualified him from driving for two years for having no licence.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He was convicted and fined \u20ac200, with 12 months to pay, for failing to provide a sample to garda\u00ed.<\/p>\n<p>For a charge of having no insurance, the judge convicted and fined \u20ac300, giving the man 12 months to pay and disqualified him from driving for four years.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He also signed a probation bond for 12 months and is bound to keep the peace and be of good behaviour.
