{"id":407467,"date":"2026-03-27T22:00:09","date_gmt":"2026-03-27T22:00:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/407467\/"},"modified":"2026-03-27T22:00:09","modified_gmt":"2026-03-27T22:00:09","slug":"apple-cofounder-steve-wozniak-admits-hes-disappointed-a-lot-by-ai-and-hardly-uses-it","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/407467\/","title":{"rendered":"Apple cofounder Steve Wozniak admits he\u2019s \u2018disappointed a lot\u2019 by AI and hardly uses it"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a aria-label=\"Go to https:\/\/fortune.com\/company\/apple\/\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/fortune.com\/company\/apple\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Apple<\/a> will celebrate 50 years on April 1, and over the past half-century, it has developed the eight-bit personal computer Apple I, the Macintosh, the iPhone, Apple Watch, and AirPods, putting its technology into the pockets of about 1.5 billion people.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Cofounder Steve Wozniak, who made his mark in this new age of technology, would rather just touch grass.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI really have disconnected from the technology quite a bit,\u201d Wozniak said in a recent <a aria-label=\"Go to https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2026\/03\/23\/us\/video\/steve-wozniak-apple-50-anniversary-ai-social-media\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2026\/03\/23\/us\/video\/steve-wozniak-apple-50-anniversary-ai-social-media\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">CNN interview<\/a>. \u201cAnd I believe that nature is much more important than what humans do.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Wozniak was the <a aria-label=\"Go to https:\/\/fortune.com\/2017\/04\/21\/steve-wozniak-apple-microsoft\/\" href=\"https:\/\/fortune.com\/2017\/04\/21\/steve-wozniak-apple-microsoft\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">innovator behind Apple<\/a>, serving the company until 1985 and developing its first two computer models as well as the first Macintosh, which popularized the <a aria-label=\"Go to https:\/\/computerhistory.org\/exhibits\/hello-the-mac-at-40\/#:~:text=The%20GUI,at%20a%20GUI%2Dbased%20computer.\" href=\"https:\/\/computerhistory.org\/exhibits\/hello-the-mac-at-40\/#:~:text=The%20GUI,at%20a%20GUI%2Dbased%20computer.\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">graphical user interface<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The breakthrough made PCs more accessible to nontechnical users, opening the doors to a mass audience. Despite the Woz\u2019s contributions to the ubiquity of devices, he does not see the same value in the current big trend in technology.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t use AI much at all,\u201d he said. \u201cI often read things [AI produces], and they just sound too dry and too perfect, and I want something from a human being, and I\u2019m disappointed a lot.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Apple has largely sat out of the AI arms race occupying much of the tech sector. It devoted just <a aria-label=\"Go to https:\/\/fortune.com\/2026\/02\/17\/why-apple-isnt-spending-big-on-ai-capex-commodity-integration-strategy\/\" href=\"https:\/\/fortune.com\/2026\/02\/17\/why-apple-isnt-spending-big-on-ai-capex-commodity-integration-strategy\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">$12.7 billion to AI capital expenditures<\/a> in fiscal 2025, a figure that pales in comparison to the $300 billion that AI hyperscalers <a aria-label=\"Go to https:\/\/fortune.com\/company\/microsoft\/\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/fortune.com\/company\/microsoft\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Microsoft<\/a>, <a aria-label=\"Go to https:\/\/fortune.com\/company\/amazon-com\/\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/fortune.com\/company\/amazon-com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Amazon<\/a>, and Alphabet collectively spent.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>And instead of developing an in-house AI, Apple is powering its virtual assistant Siri with Google\u2019s Gemini, taking advantage of another company\u2019s tech.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tech\u2019s big names advocating for the analog life<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Woz\u2019s skepticism\u00a0of AI is shared by a number of leaders. A <a aria-label=\"Go to https:\/\/fortune.com\/2026\/03\/13\/ceos-ai-mandate-employees-jobs-survey-nicholas-bloom\/\" href=\"https:\/\/fortune.com\/2026\/03\/13\/ceos-ai-mandate-employees-jobs-survey-nicholas-bloom\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">survey of more than 6,000 senior executives<\/a> in the U.S., the U.K., Germany, and Australia led by Stanford future-of-work whiz Nicholas Bloom, found nearly 70% of CEOs, CFOs, and other C-suite members use AI at work for less than an hour a week\u2014and 28% don\u2019t use the tech at all. About 7% of respondents reported using AI more than five hours in a typical workweek.<\/p>\n<p>Still, AI use among top executives in the workplace is on the rise, with a January <a aria-label=\"Go to https:\/\/www.gallup.com\/workplace\/701195\/frequent-workplace-continued-rise.aspx\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gallup.com\/workplace\/701195\/frequent-workplace-continued-rise.aspx\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Gallup poll<\/a> finding 69% of leaders used AI in the fourth quarter of 2025, up from less than 40% in mid-2023.<\/p>\n<p>But even as AI gains momentum, a <a aria-label=\"Go to https:\/\/fortune.com\/2026\/03\/04\/social-media-bans-minors-joe-gagliese-age-check-verification-gen-z\/\" href=\"https:\/\/fortune.com\/2026\/03\/04\/social-media-bans-minors-joe-gagliese-age-check-verification-gen-z\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">cadre of tech entrepreneurs<\/a>\u2014even those who are responsible for proliferating the increased use of AI tools and devices\u2014are setting boundaries on screens at home.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a aria-label=\"Go to https:\/\/fortune.com\/company\/youtube\/\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/fortune.com\/company\/youtube\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">YouTube<\/a> cofounder Steve Chen, who served as YouTube\u2019s chief technology officer before its 2006 acquisition by Google, said in a <a aria-label=\"Go to https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/@stanfordgsb\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/@stanfordgsb\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Stanford Graduate School of Business talk<\/a> last year that he and his wife <a aria-label=\"Go to https:\/\/fortune.com\/article\/why-kids-shouldnt-watch-short-form-video-tiktok-instagram-reels-steven-chen-former-youtube-exec\/\" href=\"https:\/\/fortune.com\/article\/why-kids-shouldnt-watch-short-form-video-tiktok-instagram-reels-steven-chen-former-youtube-exec\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">limit their children\u2019s viewing<\/a> of short-form content.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think TikTok is entertainment, but it\u2019s purely entertainment,\u201d Chen said. \u201cIt\u2019s just for that moment. Just shorter-form content equates to shorter attention spans.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Tech billionaire Peter Thiel said in 2024 he allowed his two children only an hour and a half of screen time per week. Bill Gates, Snap\u2019s Evan Spiegel, and Tesla\u2019s Elon Musk have <a aria-label=\"Go to https:\/\/fortune.com\/2026\/02\/21\/peter-thiel-bill-gates-steve-jobs-steve-chen-tech-billionaires-publicly-shielding-their-children-from-tech-products-social-media\/\" href=\"https:\/\/fortune.com\/2026\/02\/21\/peter-thiel-bill-gates-steve-jobs-steve-chen-tech-billionaires-publicly-shielding-their-children-from-tech-products-social-media\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">all similarly limited<\/a> their children\u2019s tech usage.<\/p>\n<p>Their caution was backed up this week, when a jury found YouTube and <a aria-label=\"Go to https:\/\/fortune.com\/company\/facebook\/\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/fortune.com\/company\/facebook\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Meta<\/a> <a aria-label=\"Go to https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/social-media-addiction-trial-la-5e54075023d837ccdc76c4ca512e925d\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/social-media-addiction-trial-la-5e54075023d837ccdc76c4ca512e925d\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">liable for the harm of young users<\/a> in designing platforms with addictive features.<\/p>\n<p>These concerns were even shared by Apple execs. When the iPad was released in 2010, then-CEO Steve Jobs, who founded the company alongside Wozniak, said his children had never used the device.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe limit how much technology our kids use at home,\u201d he <a aria-label=\"Go to https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2014\/09\/11\/fashion\/steve-jobs-apple-was-a-low-tech-parent.html\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2014\/09\/11\/fashion\/steve-jobs-apple-was-a-low-tech-parent.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">told the New York Times<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Current Apple CEO Tim Cook said earlier this month he was concerned about how much people use AI. He added that technology is neither positive nor negative and that it\u2019s in the hands of the inventor and user to determine its value.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t want people using [devices] too much,\u201d he said in an <a aria-label=\"Go to https:\/\/www.goodmorningamerica.com\/culture\/story\/tim-cook-talks-apples-50th-anniversary-future-ai-131137939\" href=\"https:\/\/www.goodmorningamerica.com\/culture\/story\/tim-cook-talks-apples-50th-anniversary-future-ai-131137939\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">interview<\/a> with Good Morning America. \u201cI don\u2019t want people looking at the smartphone more than they\u2019re looking in someone\u2019s eyes. Because if they\u2019re just scrolling endlessly, this is not the way you wanna spend your day.
