Around 180,000 square miles of ocean was already protected in this area, and the islanders of Juan Fern\u00e1ndez joined with national and international NGOs to campaign for broader protections.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis commitment reflects the heart of our community,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/oceanographicmagazine.com\/news\/one-million-square-kilometres-of-ocean-gains-full-protection-in-chile\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">stated<\/a> Pablo Manr\u00edquez Angulo, mayor of the archipelago\u2019s Robinson Crusoe Island. \u201cExpanding marine protections is not only about conserving biodiversity, it\u2019s about safeguarding our culture, our traditions, and the future of our children.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>THE LARGEST NEW MARINE PARKS:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In 11th of March this year, Boric left office suffering from consistent low approval ratings throughout his tenure.
