McLoughlin enjoyed stellar success on the legendary Tipp team of the sixties, winning a brace of back-to-back Celtic Crosses \u2013 in 1961-62 and again in1964-65.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was with great sadness that Tipperary GAA learned of the sad passing of former Tipperary senior hurler and All-Ireland medal winner Sean McLoughlin,\u201d a county board statement began.<\/p>\n
\u201cBorn in Rahealty, Sean first played competitive hurling for Rahealty where he enjoyed great success at minor level. He also enjoyed success with his school, Thurles CBS.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe arrived on the inter-county scene at the age of 16 when he first linked up with the Tipperary minor team, before joining the senior panel in 1958.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Thurles Sarsfields clubman made his senior inter-county debut in the 1960 Munster semi-final against Waterford and went on to win four senior All-Ireland medals with Tipperary, seven Munster championships, two National Hurling League medals, a Railway Cup medal with Munster, and nine Tipperary senior championship medals with Thurles Sarsfields.<\/p>\n
\u201cTipperary GAA County Board extends its sincere sympathies to Sean\u2019s daughters Lucy and Carmel, sons Liam, Brian and Jim, and the extended McLoughlin family at this sad time.\u201d<\/p>\n
A social media post from Thurles Sarsfields recounted how McLoughlin joined the club in 1955, winning county junior honours before going on to collect the first of his county senior medals the following year.<\/p>\n
\u201cFrom then until his retirement in 1972 he was ever-present on the club\u2019s senior side, winning senior medals from \u201856-59, and again from \u201861-65, nine in all.\u201d<\/p>\n
The club also referenced his two All-Ireland minor medals won in 1952 and \u201853, \u201cscoring a record seven goals in the two finals, as a half-forward.\u201d In 2016 he was inducted into the Thurles Sarsfields Hall of Fame.<\/p>\n
The deceased\u2019s remains will repose in Hugh Ryan\u2019s Funeral Home, Slievenamon Road, Thurles this Thursday (5-8pm). His funeral cort\u00e9ge will walk from his residence on Friday to arrive at the Cathedral of the Assumption, Thurles at 10.30am for Requiem Mass at 11am.
