{"id":411431,"date":"2026-03-30T11:59:07","date_gmt":"2026-03-30T11:59:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/411431\/"},"modified":"2026-03-30T11:59:07","modified_gmt":"2026-03-30T11:59:07","slug":"sunday-game-panel-stick-the-boot-into-murphy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/411431\/","title":{"rendered":"Sunday Game panel stick the boot into Murphy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>RT\u00c9\u2019s GAA panel have not held back in their criticism of Michael Murphy in the wake of Donegal\u2019s victory over old rivals Kerry in yesterday\u2019s National League Final.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Most were ion agreement that the Glenswilly man was lucky not to receive a red card after his ill-timed tackle on Kerry\u2019s Dylan Casey.<\/p>\n<p>Then 36-year-old talisman scored a brilliant goal and ended up with 1-05 as Jim McGuinness\u2019 side steamrolled Jack O\u2019Connor\u2019s flat Kerry side.<\/p>\n<p>But GAA pundits Lee Keegan and Ciar\u00e1n Whelan said Murphy was lucky he was was still on the pitch after the incident.<\/p>\n<p>Former Dublin star Whelan said he thought the incident should have been spotted by the linesman who was beside the play.<\/p>\n<p>Former Mayo star Keegan said \u201cIt\u2019s not a question. It was the most blatant red card.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s probably no excuse, the first dig is bad, to the ribs, it\u2019s the second one that\u2019s probably inexcusable.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSomeone of his experience and know-how of the game, to do something like that in a game like that is probably really disappointing, and the fact that Jim [McGuinness] said he didn\u2019t see it\u2026I could see it up in the stands, it was clear.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGough might be getting a bit of flak this evening. I can\u2019t blame Gough. I don\u2019t think he\u2019s seen it, I think the linesman needs to be really strong there.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s directly in front of him, it\u2019s as clear a strike as you\u2019ll get and for me it\u2019s a red card all day.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Referee David Gough did not have a clear view of the incident and spoke to his linesman before showing a yellow card to Murphy.<\/p>\n<p>Whelan added: \u201cI agree, it\u2019s bad, it\u2019s a nasty one. He\u2019ll know himself that that was way out of order.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe strike, it was a nasty one coming in, it wasn\u2019t once, it was kind of twice.
