{"id":413158,"date":"2026-03-31T12:09:13","date_gmt":"2026-03-31T12:09:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/413158\/"},"modified":"2026-03-31T12:09:13","modified_gmt":"2026-03-31T12:09:13","slug":"eu-hourly-labour-costs-ranged-from-e12-to-e57-in-2025-news-articles","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/413158\/","title":{"rendered":"EU hourly labour costs ranged from \u20ac12 to \u20ac57 in 2025 &#8211; News articles"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ecl-u-type-paragraph\">In 2025, the average <a class=\"ecl-link\" href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/eurostat\/statistics-explained\/index.php?title=Glossary:Average_hourly_labour_cost\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">hourly labour costs<\/a> in the whole economy (see methodological notes) were estimated to be \u20ac34.9 in the <a class=\"ecl-link\" href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/eurostat\/statistics-explained\/index.php\/Glossary:European_Union_(EU)\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">EU<\/a> and \u20ac38.2 in the <a class=\"ecl-link\" href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/eurostat\/statistics-explained\/index.php?title=Glossary:Euro_area\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">euro area<\/a>, up from \u20ac33.5 and \u20ac36.8, respectively, in 2024.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"ecl-u-type-paragraph\">These estimates come from <a class=\"ecl-link\" href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/eurostat\/databrowser\/view\/lc_lci_lev\/default\/table?lang=en\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">data on labour costs levels<\/a> published by Eurostat today. This article presents only a handful of findings from the more detailed <a class=\"ecl-link\" href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/eurostat\/statistics-explained\/index.php?title=Hourly_labour_costs\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Statistics Explained article<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Lowest hourly labour costs in Bulgaria, highest in Luxembourg\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"ecl-u-type-paragraph\">There were significant differences between EU countries in average hourly labour costs. The lowest hourly labour costs were recorded in Bulgaria (\u20ac12.0), Romania (\u20ac13.6) and Hungary (\u20ac15.2), while the highest were in Luxembourg (\u20ac56.8), Denmark (\u20ac51.7) and the Netherlands (\u20ac47.9).\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center\"><a class=\"ecl-link\" href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/eurostat\/documents\/d\/products-eurostat-news\/hourly-labour-costs-2025\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Hourly labour costs, 2025 (in \u20ac, whole economy*, enterprises with 10 or more employees). Link to full dataset below. \" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/hourly-labour-costs-2025.png\" width=\"700\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"ecl-u-type-align-center ecl-u-type-paragraph\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"ecl-u-type-align-center ecl-u-type-paragraph\">Source dataset: <a class=\"ecl-link\" href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/eurostat\/databrowser\/bookmark\/74fd337f-a672-4b31-af29-cc723faaee29?lang=en\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">lc_lci_lev<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"ecl-u-type-paragraph\">Two main components of labour costs are wages and salaries, and non-wage costs (e.g. employers\u2019 <a class=\"ecl-link\" href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/eurostat\/statistics-explained\/index.php?title=Glossary:Social_contributions\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">social contributions<\/a>). The share of non-wage costs in total labour costs for the whole economy was 24.8% in the EU and 25.6% in the euro area. The lowest shares of non-wage costs in the EU were recorded in Romania (4.8%), Lithuania (5.5%) and Malta (5.8%) and the highest in France (32.3%), Sweden (31.7%) and Slovakia (28.6%).<\/p>\n<p>Hourly labour costs up by 4.1% in the EU in 2025<\/p>\n<p class=\"ecl-u-type-paragraph\">In 2025, hourly labour costs at the whole economy level expressed in \u20ac rose by 4.1% in the EU and by 3.8% in the euro area, compared with 2024.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ecl-u-type-paragraph\">Within the euro area, hourly labour costs increased in all countries, except Malta (-0.5%). The largest increases were recorded in Bulgaria (+13.1%), Croatia (+11.6%), Slovenia (+9.3%) and Lithuania (+9.2%), whereas the lowest were in France (+2.0%) and Italy (+3.2%), followed by Spain, Cyprus and Luxembourg (+3.5% each).<\/p>\n<p class=\"ecl-u-type-paragraph\">For EU countries outside the euro area, the hourly labour costs expressed in national currency increased in all countries, with the largest increases recorded in Romania (+10.6%), Hungary (+8.9%) and Poland (+8.8%).
