After the findings of the private report were provided to the Irish state pathologist, a review of the original findings was commissioned, the conclusions of which have now been passed to the Lynch family.<\/p>\n
The new report, seen by the Irish News, concludes that it remains the state pathologist\u2019s opinion that Kelly\u2019s death was due to \u201cdrowning\u201d.<\/p>\n
The latest report was written by the same pathologist who carred out the initial post-mortem examination.<\/p>\n
It states that the injuries seen during the post-mortem examination \u201cwould be in keeping with a fall from height\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere was no evidence to suggest a physical assault,\u201d the report concludes.<\/p>\n
The state pathologist added that in her opinion injuries caused to Kelly after her death were caused by \u201cinsects and animals\u201d.<\/p>\n

According to the report, other \u201cpotential complications of immersion in water\u201d may have contributed to her death, while a spinal fracture and the presence of alcohol and prescription drugs \u201cwould have made it difficult\u2026to extricate herself from the water\u201d.<\/p>\n
Kelly\u2019s mum, Julieanne Lynch, has said she does not accept the findings of the latest report into her daughter\u2019s death and vowed to continue to fight for more information on what happened to her.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn the first post-mortem, she (the pathologist) said that Kelly would have been unable to move, and now it is stated that she had bruises on the back of her hands because she was crawling. Which is it?<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are still going to fight and contest the original post-mortem because there cannot be so many discrepancies from one report.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are going to be seeking a meeting with the Minister of Justice, who had agreed to meet with us, and then declined.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019ll just be getting louder and more vocal. It\u2019s almost as if Kelly has died and we have lost all control over her parents and that shouldn\u2019t be the case.\u201d<\/p>\n
James Brannigan, a former PSNI detective who was instrumental in uncovering the murder of Katie Simpson by Richard Cresswell after it had wrongly been classed as suicide, has been assisting the Lynch family through his charity, the Katie Trust.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen I first met Julieanne and Sean, I had questions over the injuries, and now I have even more questions.<\/p>\n
\u201cKelly\u2019s family want to meet with the state pathologist in order to have the injuries suffered by her to be explained in person.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe state pathologist did not attend the scene of where Kelly was found, and was informed by Gardai that she was found submerged in water, and we argue that has directed the narrative ever since.\u201d<\/p>\n
An Garda S\u00edoch\u00e1na instigated a \u201cpeer review\u201d of the case in October 2024<\/a>, which it stressed was not a reopening of the investigation.
