{"id":41958,"date":"2025-09-04T00:18:11","date_gmt":"2025-09-04T00:18:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/41958\/"},"modified":"2025-09-04T00:18:11","modified_gmt":"2025-09-04T00:18:11","slug":"tesla-blames-19-drop-in-irish-turnover-on-falling-demand-for-model-y-cars-the-irish-times","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/41958\/","title":{"rendered":"Tesla blames 19% drop in Irish turnover on falling demand for Model Y cars \u2013 The Irish Times"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Carmaker <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/tesla\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/tesla\/\">Tesla<\/a> saw revenue tumble at its Irish subsidiary last year, with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/electric-vehicles\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/electric-vehicles\/\">electric vehicle<\/a> (EV) maker blaming falling demand for its Model Y cars.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Telsa Motors Ireland Ltd, which is controlled by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/elon-musk\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/elon-musk\/\">Elon Musk<\/a>, reported a near 19 per cent drop in turnover in 2024 as car deliveries fell by 11 per cent.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Profitability also fell, with pretax profit down nearly a quarter to \u20ac1.5 million from almost \u20ac2 million in 2023. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The fall in revenue and profit came amid a general slump in sales of EVs in Ireland and before protests internationally over Mr Musk\u2019s increasingly political stance. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The brand\u2019s directors attributed the fall in revenue to falling deliveries \u201cpredominantly due to a decrease in sales of Model Y\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The car brand\u2019s revenue fell to \u20ac115.2 million in 2024 from \u20ac142 million in 2023. Costs of sales dropped relative to revenue \u2013 down 21.6 per cent. However, increased administrative expenses \u2013 up nearly 40 per cent \u2013 hit the company\u2019s bottom line.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The company has an accumulated profit in excess of \u20ac5 million, but did not pay a dividend to shareholders. Employee costs at the company rose to \u20ac4.17 million from \u20ac2.47 million the previous year as its headcount rose from 38 to 59 people. The company accounted for restructuring costs of \u20ac168,000 in the financial year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Vehicle registration figures from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/society-of-the-irish-motor-industry-simi\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/society-of-the-irish-motor-industry-simi\/\">Society of the Irish Motor Industry (Simi) <\/a>show that, having hit a high of 22,800 sales in 2023, demand for EVs fell 23.6 per cent last year to 17,459.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">EV sales have rebounded this year, topping diesel sales for the first time, but Tesla has not benefited. Sales of the brand fell 10.46 per cent in the first eight months of the year at a time when EV sales generally jumped by 36.23 per cent.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The growth in demand for EVs compares to a general increase of just 3.3 per cent in car sales.
