\n The inspection was carried out at St Camillus Nursing Centre in Killucan in April this year.\n <\/p>\n
A Westmeath Nursing Home has been cited by the healthcare watchdog for failing to meet regulations over resident’s care plans, fire safety, and staffing.<\/p>\n
In all St Camillus Nursing Centre in Killucan was found to be non-compliant in five areas after an inspection in April this year.<\/p>\n
During the unannounced inspection HIQA found the environment to be warm and bright, with residents saying they felt very safe and secure.<\/p>\n
However the nursing home failed its inspection in five regulation areas.<\/p>\n
Care plans for individual residents were found to be insufficient, and did not demonstrate that there was a strong person-centred human rights approach to care.<\/p>\n
St Camillus has been deemed non-compliant on fire safety regulations with staff not appropriately briefed on fire safety drills.<\/p>\n
And inspectors were not assured of the building’s ability to contain fire, smoke and fumes.<\/p>\n
While additional staff had been recruited, HIQA was not assured residents were adequately supported by staff to participate in meaningful social activities.<\/p>\n
And staff did not demonstrate appropriate knowledge and skills in relation to meeting residents’ social care needs.<\/p>\n
That is a repeated finding from the last inspection in November 2024.\u00a0<\/p>\n
