LIMERICK City and County Council (LCCC) has announced the signing of contracts<\/a> for the development of ten new social housing units in Ardagh.<\/p>\n

The council has signed contracts with Jada Projects Limited for the development of the social housing units, located in O\u2019 Connor Park, Ardagh, Co Limerick.<\/p>\n

The project, valued at \u20ac3,188,195 (excluding VAT), marks \u201ca significant step forward in addressing the housing needs of the community,\u201d a spokesperson for the council said.<\/p>\n

The development comprises of four one-bedroom apartment units, four two-bedroom two storey units and two three-bedroom two storey units.<\/p>\n

The site, which is a greenfield location within the existing O\u2019Connor Park housing estate, will undergo extensive site development works including new footpaths, an estate road, boundary treatments and landscaping works.<\/p>\n

The units are expected to be completed by December 2026.<\/p>\n

Cathaoirleach of the Newcastle West Municipal District, Cllr Michael Collins, commented: \u201cThis is a big vote of confidence in the future of the village of Ardagh and I warmly welcome this development. We are continuing to address local housing needs and support families within our communities, while keeping out county towns and villages thriving. I look forward to the positive impact this development will bring.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mayor of Limerick, John Moran, welcomed the news, saying: \u201cThis is another small, welcome step towards progressing our acute housing needs across Ardagh, West Limerick and throughout the rest of the county.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mayor Moran continued: \u201cHaving developments across the county will be an important factor in developing Limerick in a sustainable way, as outlined in the More for Limerick mayoral programme. I look forward to seeing this project progress, with safe, comfortable homes to be provided for ten more individuals and families.\u201d<\/p>\n

Director general at LCCC, Dr Pat Daly stated: “This marks another positive step forward in addressing the urgent housing needs in Ardagh, West Limerick, and across the wider county. These ten new units will be built to high standards in terms of comfort and sustainability, helping to reduce energy costs for residents.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cDelivering housing developments throughout Limerick is key to building a more balanced and sustainable future. I\u2019m pleased to see this initiative moving ahead.”<\/p>\n
