The <a data-link-tracking=\"InArticle|Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.express.co.uk\/latest\/state-pension\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">state pension<\/a> age was set at 66, but from today April 6, it will rise in phased increments over the course of the next two years until it hits 67 in 2028.<\/p>\n<p>The change comes as a response to the substantial rise in life expectancy over the past several decades. Reports say it is expected to save the Treasury as much as \u00a310bn per year by the end of the decade. If you will be impacted, you should receive a letter from the Department for Work and Pensions (<a data-link-tracking=\"InArticle|Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.express.co.uk\/latest\/dwp\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">DWP<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>Payments will go up in line with the increase in age.
