{"id":424380,"date":"2026-04-07T12:37:11","date_gmt":"2026-04-07T12:37:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/424380\/"},"modified":"2026-04-07T12:37:11","modified_gmt":"2026-04-07T12:37:11","slug":"man-60s-killed-in-co-louth-road-traffic-collision-the-irish-times","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/424380\/","title":{"rendered":"Man (60s) killed in Co Louth road traffic collision \u2013 The Irish Times"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">A man was pronounced dead at the scene of a fatal road collision in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/louth\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/louth\/\">Co Louth<\/a> on Monday night.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/an-garda-siochana\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/an-garda-siochana\/\">Garda\u00ed<\/a> and emergency services responded to the incident on the N53 at Rassan, near <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/dundalk\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/dundalk\/\">Dundalk<\/a>, at around 10.15pm.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Two-cars were involved in the collision, with the driver of one vehicle, a man in his late 60s, pronounced dead at the scene. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">His body was removed to Louth County Hospital, where a postmortem was due to take place. The coroner has been notified, An Garda S\u00edoch\u00e1na said in a statement. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">A woman aged in her 20s, who was travelling in the second car, was taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries, the statement added.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The scene was cordoned off and preserved to allow for a technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators. Traffic diversions were in place on Monday morning, garda\u00ed said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The force appealed to anyone who witnessed the crash to come forward, including those who may have dashcam footage from the area around the time of the collision.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The man\u2019s death brings the number of people killed on the State\u2019s roads so far this year to 47, according to Garda statistics.
