ec74h0k1\">The economist famously dubbed \u201cDoctor Doom\u201d for predicting the 2008 financial crisis has seemingly morphed into a bullish \u201cDoctor Boom\u201d with his latest economic outlook.<\/p>\n<p>Nouriel Roubini now predicts that a <a target=\"_self\" class=\"e1yy41x40 ef9u0v01 css-1ankfgb ecgc78b0\" href=\"https:\/\/www.scmp.com\/tech\/science-research\/article\/1814427\/did-animal-dung-cause-cambrian-explosion-chinese-researchers?module=inline&amp;pgtype=article\" title=\"\" data-qa=\"BaseLink-renderAnchor-StyledAnchor\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">\u201cCambrian explosion\u201d<\/a> of technological advances \u2013 including artificial intelligence \u2013 could propel the US\u2019 potential economic growth to 4 per cent by 2030, and as high as 10 per cent in less than a quarter-century, overshadowing Middle East oil shocks and other near-term headwinds.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">Framing AI as a long-term driver rather than a bubble, the economist said that the US and China were the world\u2019s two leading innovators, and that both stood to benefit.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">\u201cThat fundamental story \u2013 regardless of geopolitics, regardless of climate change, regardless of populism \u2013 is the driver for the next 10 to 20 years, and is a positive for the world at large,\u201d Roubini said at the Greenwich Economic Forum in Hong Kong on Monday.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">Roubini pointed to around 15 technologies \u2013 including AI, semiconductors, humanoid robots and space exploration \u2013 that he said collectively represent a \u201cCambrian explosion of new technologies of the future that we\u2019ve not seen in human history\u201d.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">With the boost from technology, the American economy\u2019s potential annual growth, which now stands at 2 to 3 per cent, is expected to reach 4 per cent by the end of the decade, said the economist, who is also the chairman and CEO of Roubini Macro
