Joey Fatone<\/a> said he became the first *NSYNC<\/a> member to discover bandmate Lance Bass<\/a> was gay when he walked in on him during an intimate moment.<\/p>\n

Fatone told the anecdote in his \u201cBoy Band Confidential<\/a>\u201d ID docuseries, which premiered<\/a> this week.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe go out one night,\u201d Fatone said in a clip shared by USA Today<\/a>. \u201cWe all go back to Lance\u2019s house. I pass out in one of his guest bedrooms. I wake up at, like, 3 o\u2019clock in the morning. I\u2019m like, \u2018Oh, my God, I got to leave.\u2019 I go to his bedroom, open up the door. There\u2019s nobody in there.\u201d<\/p>\n

Fatone moved on to Bass\u2019 office and said, \u201cI open up the door and he\u2019s sitting there, and there\u2019s a guy straddled on top of him.\u201d<\/p>\n

Bass chimed in that he was at the computer with his very first boyfriend. Fatone clarified they were not naked, but that he remembered the room \u201cgot quiet.\u201d<\/p>\n

He apologized for walking in, but Lance invited him to stay.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was like, \u2018Surprise,\u2019\u201d Bass said. <\/p>\n

Fatone said he joked that Bass\u2019 mother was going to kill him.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s like, \u2018Oh, please. I don\u2019t care,\u2019\u201d Bass said of Fatone\u2019s response. \u201cI knew he wouldn\u2019t care, but it was just so nice to hear those words, and finally (have) one of the members of your group know and be like, \u2018I don\u2019t care.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Bass asked Fatone to keep his secret for the time being.<\/p>\n

\u201cLance, I love you,\u201d Fatone recalled saying. \u201cYou\u2019re my brother. You let me know when it\u2019s right for you to tell.\u201d<\/p>\n

Bass came out publicly in a 2006 People interview<\/a>, four years after the band had effectively broken up. He married Michael Turchin in 2014<\/a>. The couple welcomed twins in 2021.<\/p>\n

Fatone, Bass and bandmates Chris Kirkpatrick, Justin Timberlake and JC Chasez produced a No. 1 hit<\/a> on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, \u201cIt\u2019s Gonna Be Me\u201d and six top 10 hits in the late \u201990s and early 2000s.<\/p>\n
