After dropping two songs this summer, Tame Impala<\/a> have announced a new album \u2013\u00a0their first in five years. The follow-up to 2020\u2019s The Slow Rush<\/a> is titled Deadbeat<\/a> and arrives October 17 via Columbia<\/a>. Check out the cover artwork for the album below.<\/p>\n

Kevin Parker<\/a> ushered in Tame Impala\u2019s return in July with \u201cEnd of the Summer<\/a>,\u201d which arrived with a trippy split-screen music video. Then, yesterday, he also rolled out the new song \u201cLoser<\/a>.\u201d Tame Impala tapped Joe Keery\u2014the Stranger Things<\/a> and Pavements<\/a> actor who records his own music as Djo<\/a>\u2014to star in that music video where, for a brief few seconds, he swaps places with Parker to tell the tale of a dejected burnout.<\/p>\n

Deadbeat, according to a press release, \u201cis deeply inspired by bush doof culture and the Western Australia rave scene.\u201d Parker worked on the album in his Fremantle hometown and at his studio in Injidup, Western Australia. The 12-song project will include both \u201cEnd of the Summer\u201d and \u201cLoser.\u201d<\/p>\n

Although The Slow Rush came out five years ago, Parker has been plenty busy since then. He won<\/a> his first-ever Grammy Award<\/a>, the Best Dance\/Electronic Recording<\/a> trophy, for the Justice collaboration \u201cNeverender<\/a>.\u201d Then there\u2019s all the film contributions, with Tame Impala recording \u201cJourney to the Real World<\/a>\u201d for the Barbie<\/a> movie, \u201cWings of Time<\/a>\u201d for Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, a remix of \u201cEdge of Reality<\/a>\u201d for Elvis<\/a>, and the Diana Ross collaboration \u201cTurn Up the Sunshine<\/a>\u201d for Minions: The Rise of Gru<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Of course, Parker has lent his skills to a number of other songs over the past couple years, too. The Tame Impala mastermind recorded \u201cNo More Lies<\/a>\u201d with Thundercat, \u201cOne Night\/All Night<\/a>\u201d with Justice, \u201cNew Gold<\/a>\u201d with Gorillaz, and \u201cCall My Phone Thinking I\u2019m Doing Nothing Better<\/a>\u201d with the Streets. That doesn\u2019t even include all the remixes artists like 070 Shake<\/a>, the Crowded House<\/a>, and Justice<\/a> have asked him to do, or him helming the production board for Dua Lipa\u2019s Radical Optimism<\/a>.<\/p>\n
