{"id":44220,"date":"2025-09-04T23:50:07","date_gmt":"2025-09-04T23:50:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/44220\/"},"modified":"2025-09-04T23:50:07","modified_gmt":"2025-09-04T23:50:07","slug":"ethan-hyde-drives-eire-og-past-bishopstown-to-set-up-ballincollig-clash","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/44220\/","title":{"rendered":"Ethan Hyde drives \u00c9ire \u00d3g past Bishopstown to set up Ballincollig clash"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"\">\u00c9ire \u00d3g: 1-13 (1-2-9)\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Bishopstown: 1-8 (1-0-8)\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">A slicker \u00c9ire \u00d3g team proved too strong for Bishopstown in the Rebel \u00d3g Premier 1 MFC quarter-final at MTU Cork on Thursday night.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The Muskerry side will now meet neighbours and the holders Ballincollig in the last four following this five-point success while Douglas take on Glanmire.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Timmy O&#8217;Sullivan&#8217;s charges were deserving victors over the course of the hour. They didn\u2019t trail at any stage as they enjoyed a three-point advantage at half-time.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">They kept their opposition at arms-length for the vast majority led on by Cork minor footballer Ethan Hyde.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">There were also big performances from the likes of Jack O\u2019Connell and Miche\u00e1l Sheehan in defence. Kevin Beechinor used his size to gain an upper hand in midfield with Se\u00e1n Murphy\u2019s crafty runs causing problems for the Bishopstown defence.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">There were many more excellent performers wearing a red and yellow jersey. The win and display made more noteworthy considering \u00c9ire \u00d3g were without sharpshooter Se\u00e1n Hurley due to injury.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The teams traded early points before Se\u00e1n Murphy pointed and Hyde converted a two-point free to give \u00c9ire \u00d3g a 0-4 to 0-1 lead after five minutes.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/4769507_5_articleinlinemobile_DKE040925Football005_1_.jpg\" alt=\"\u00c9ire \u00d3g's Eoghan Hogan goes past Bishopstown's Jack Tompkins. Picture: David Keane<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Hyde was having a big impact on the match, not just with his scoring but his overall play too. He kicked over a sweet 45 in what was a low scoring half where both defences were on top.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Cullan McBride, Bishopstown\u2019s only scorer so far, pointed. It was their first score in 19 minutes, 0-5 to 0-2 after 22 minutes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">It was quickly followed by a Neil Crowley free to leave them two points adrift.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The Town were enjoying a sustained period of dominance. Callum Caplice\u2019s rasper hit the crossbar before Andy Cuthbert bisected the posts.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u00c9ire \u00d3g finished the half stronger though, another Hyde two-point placed ball was timely as his team led 0-7 to 0-4 at half-time.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">A Daniel Murphy point a minute into the new half was the perfect start for Bishopstown. Picture: David Keane<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The Ovens outfit tacked on two successive points before Bishopstown roared into the game for a brief moment with a smashing goal through Jack Tompkins, son of the coach Larry Tompkins, 0-10 to 1-6 after 41 minutes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Both sides were reduced to 14 players a minute later following an off the ball incident, two straight red cards, S\u00e9 Clarke for Bishopstown and Adam Hayfield for \u00c9ire \u00d3g.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The Muskerry club got a goal of their own when Colm Sheehan finished to the net from close range with a quarter of the game remaining.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The teams then traded points as \u00c9ire \u00d3g led 1-11 to 1-7.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The team in red and yellow saw out the final 10 minutes very impressively.
