{"id":442595,"date":"2026-04-19T03:58:15","date_gmt":"2026-04-19T03:58:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/442595\/"},"modified":"2026-04-19T03:58:15","modified_gmt":"2026-04-19T03:58:15","slug":"limerick-man-smeared-poo-in-cell-judge-says-my-credibility-is-tested-every-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/442595\/","title":{"rendered":"Limerick man smeared poo in cell -Judge says &#8216;my credibility is tested every day&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\u201cMY CREDIBILITY is tested every day in court six,\u201d said a judge when a man was brought before <a href=\"https:\/\/www.limerickleader.ie\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Limerick<\/a> District Court for smearing excrement in a garda cell.<\/p>\n<p>Brian Duggan, aged 35, with an address at the Nine to Nine Homeless Shelter, Church Street, St John\u2019s Square has been charged with five section four thefts and a criminal damage charge.<\/p>\n<p>Prosecuting Sergeant Denis Waters said Mr Duggan took goods worth \u20ac132 from Tesco Shopping Centre on January 9, 2026.<\/p>\n<p>On January 6, 2026, Mr Duggan was further charged with stealing property worth \u20ac51 from Circle K on St Nessan\u2019s Road, Dooradoyle.<\/p>\n<p><strong>READ MORE:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.limerickleader.ie\/news\/crime-and-courts\/2062851\/scarlett-faulkners-ex-partner-refused-compassionate-bail-to-attend-funeral.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Scarlett Faulkner\u2019s ex-partner refused compassionate bail to attend funeral<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Mr Duggan is also charged with stealing goods worth \u20ac130 from Garvey\u2019s Supervalu at Grove Island Shopping Centre, Corbally on December 18, 2025.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Duggan is further charged with stealing goods worth \u20ac60 from Tesco on Arthur\u2019s Quay on On December 11, 2025..<\/p>\n<p>The man is also charged with stealing goods worth \u20ac47 from Aldi, Childers road on September 16, 2025.<\/p>\n<p>Sgt Waters stated that Mr Duggan is also charged with criminal damage for smearing faeces on the wall of a cell at Henry Street garda station. \u201cIt had to be cleaned, judge,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Upon hearing this, Judge Patricia Harney commented \u201ccharming\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Duggan has 47 previous convictions, including 19 for theft, one for robbery, one for burglary and three for assault.<\/p>\n<p>His other convictions include criminal damage, reckless discharge of a firearm, possession of a firearm or ammunition under suspicious circumstances, making a threat with a syringe, and possession of drugs.<\/p>\n<p>Judge Harney said: \u201cMy credibility is tested every day in court six, why should today be any different.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mr Duggan\u2019s solicitor said when he was a young man, he got sucked into drugs, but he is now \u201cnot into drugs to the extent he was previously\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Judge Harney adjourned the case for Mr Duggan to pay compensation.<\/p>\n<p><strong>-Funded by the Court Reporting Scheme<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>ADVERTISEMENT &#8211;
