beyond the set of use cases explored by Beijing since the currency\u2019s launch in 2019.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">Authorities in the central province of Hunan touched upon the subject when detailing plans to expand the digital currency\u2019s application scenarios and scale, according to a document published last month.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">Hunan will \u201cexplore using the digital yuan to clear chain debts\u201d through a model where funds can reach the end of the payment chain directly, the document said.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">While details at the moment are sparse, analysts suggested the digital currency could be used to ensure the often opaque relationships between payers and payees are more traceable and transparent.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">\u201cThis could potentially help enhance real-time visibility and control over transactions within the economy,\u201d said Tan Junyu, an economist at global trade credit insurer Coface.<\/p>\n<p>Chain debts, or triangular debts \u2013 a <a target=\"_self\" class=\"e1yy41x40 ef9u0v01 css-1ankfgb ecgc78b0\" href=\"https:\/\/www.scmp.com\/economy\/china-economy\/article\/3235362\/china-heads-triangular-debt-quagmire-demands-state-repayments?module=inline&amp;pgtype=article\" title=\"\" data-qa=\"BaseLink-renderAnchor-StyledAnchor\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">series of cascading payment defaults<\/a> spreading financial strain across interdependent sectors of the economy \u2013 are
