According to reports, Liverpool face competition from five European clubs in the race to sign Crystal Palace star Marc Guehi.<\/p>\n
Liverpool<\/strong> <\/a>had a near-perfect summer transfer window as they were comfortably the biggest spending club in Europe, investing around \u00a3415m on signings.\u00a0<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n Alexander Isak, Florian Wirtz, Milos Kerkez, Jeremie Frimpong and Hugo Ekitike were among Liverpool\u2019s marquee signings, though they missed out on Guehi.<\/p>\n The England international was widely reported to be Liverpool\u2019s top centre-back target in the summer and he was available for a cut-price fee of around \u00a335m as he is in the final year of his contract.<\/p>\n This would have been a bargain as Guehi<\/strong> <\/a>has been one of the best defenders in the Premier League over the past couple of seasons and it was reported that he only wanted Liverpool amid interest from Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur.<\/p>\n READ:\u00a0Newcastle owners helped \u2018humiliate\u2019 them in Liverpool, Alexander Isak transfer saga<\/a> Liverpool and Crystal Palace reached an agreement over Guehi on deadline day, though the deal fell through at the eleventh hour as Oliver Glasner\u2019s side pulled the plug. This decision was made after they failed to beat West Ham in the race to sign Brighton centre-back Igor Julio as a replacement.<\/p>\n This means Guehi\u2019s future remains up in the air and his failed deadline day move opens the door for a European club to sign him as they reach a pre-contract agreement over a free transfer from January onwards.<\/p>\n A report from The Mirror claims<\/a> Bayern Munich are the \u2018latest superpower\u2019 to \u2018join the race\u2019 in an attempt to \u2018take advantage of the collapse\u2019.<\/p>\n The report claims Real Madrid, Barcelona, Inter Milan and Juventus are also interested in signing Guehi.<\/p>\n MORE LIVERPOOL COVERAGE ON F365\u2026 Despite this, former Premier League chief scout Mick Brown, who \u2018remains very well-connected within the game\u2019, claims Liverpool remain the \u2018frontrunner\u2019 to sign Guehi next year.<\/p>\n \u201cMarc Guehi is entitled to assess all of his options,\u201d Brown told Football Insider.<\/p>\n \u201cI have heard that the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona could come in for him on a free transfer if he\u2019s going to become available in January.<\/p>\n \u201cThose types of clubs are always going to be considered because they\u2019re huge, huge clubs.<\/p>\n \u201cHe thought Liverpool was the right move for him, he wanted to go there and win trophies.
