Garda\u00ed have been given a number of conflicting statements regarding his death.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The child\u2019s mother, who comes from an African country and has lived in Ireland for many years, has spoken in detail to garda\u00ed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Garda\u00ed have also spoken by phone to the boy\u2019s father, who is from the west of Ireland and currently living in Brazil.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">However, they are keen to speak to him in more detail as part of their investigations. One option is to send a team to Brazil to conduct an interview alongside local police.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">They may also ask Brazilian police to speak to the man on their behalf or arrange a video call. Ireland and Brazil have a mutual legal assistance agreement in place facilitate such co-operation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph b-it-article-body__interstitial-link\">[\u00a0<a aria-label=\"Open related story\" class=\"c-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/crime-law\/2025\/09\/04\/search-for-missing-assumed-dead-dublin-boy-fails-to-yield-result-at-key-location\/\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Garda\u00ed believe remains of missing boy assumed dead are buried on lands in north Co DublinOpens in new window<\/a>\u00a0]<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">\u201cJust because we want to speak to him in more detail, doesn\u2019t mean he\u2019s a suspect,\u201d a Garda source said. \u201cThis is a standard part of the process.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">One witness has provided garda\u00ed with what they said was the precise location of the boy\u2019s remains on an area of waste ground in Donabate.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Garda\u00ed, with the assistance of a cadaver dog, have been searching the area since Monday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">However, so far no remains have been found, leading garda\u00ed to gradually expand the search area. The witness who provided the information was described as \u201cnot the most reliable\u201d but sources said they remain confident they will find some evidence to progress the investigation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">\u201cIt is possible they forgot the exact spot. They were probably not in a clearheaded state at the time,\u201d said a source.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The search is set to continue through the weekend.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">A property in Donabate, where the boy was living in a family setting, was sealed off and searched last weekend.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The child was in the care of the State for a long period, from the time he was a newborn, as his parents were considering asking for him to be adopted. However, they had a change of heart and the boy was reunited with them.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall b-it-article-body__text--left\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/tusla\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/tusla\/\" target=\"_blank\">Tusla<\/a> concluded its involvement with the family in 2020 with no further matters coming to light in the years that followed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">However, Tusla last Friday went to the Garda and flagged its concerns for the boy\u2019s welfare.
