With last week\u2019s loss to the Fraser family, this week\u2019s episode is all about healing, with Jamie and William on Outlander<\/a> finally bonding as father and son.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn the Forest\u201d (written by original Outlander<\/a> showrunner Ronald D. Moore<\/a>) kicks off with Marsali and Jamie (Sam Heughan<\/a>) at Fergus\u2019 grave. Marsali wants to take Percy Beauchamp up on his offer of inheriting the Comte St. Germain\u2019s money. It would allow her to rebuild the printshop after the deadly fire and keep supporting the American Revolution. But she has reservations since Fergus was opposed to accepting the Comte as his father. Jamie thinks it\u2019s because the Comte was a villainous person, but Marsali lovingly corrects him by saying Fergus\u2019 hesitation stemmed from never wanting anyone but Jamie to be his father. Aww.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Jamie says Fergus will always be his son. It\u2019s settled then that Marsali will take the money, even if selling the land to Percy\u2019s associates may hurt the American rebel cause. After Jamie leaves, Marsali reveals she\u2019s pregnant with their fifth child, saying she\u2019s happy to have more of Fergus. But will viewers have more of Marsali after this scene? Unlikely, and if that\u2019s the case, Lauren Lyle<\/a> gave one hell of a farewell performance.<\/p>\n

Although Brianna and Roger successfully smuggled guns for Jamie\u2019s militia, Jamie still fears the Loyalists will have the advantage with Patrick Ferguson\u2019s new \u201cbreech loader\u201d rifle. But Bree has an idea \u2014 she can make a Hall rifle, just a few decades earlier than it would be invented. When Buck marvels at her knowledge of guns, Roger notes that Bree was called \u201cDeadeye\u201d by her adoptive father, Frank, for her aim. Learning her nickname, Jamie realizes that Frank\u2019s book is dedicated to Brianna<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\"OUTLANDER<\/p>\n

Jamie and Claire reason that Frank wasn\u2019t trying to punish either of them with the details in Soul of a Rebel. Instead, Frank had been preparing Bree to survive the 18th century in the likely scenario that she went back in time to search for her biological father. The book is a warning to Jamie\u2026 and maybe Frank even wanted Claire to have 20th-century doctor training to save Jamie\u2019s life. So Frank Randall was a good guy after all! And that\u2019s reflected in Tobias Menzies<\/a>\u2018 peppier voiceover as he encourages Jamie to train his militia for the battle at King\u2019s Mountain and to survive for the sake of their shared daughter. As time passes, a very pregnant-looking Bree contributes to the cause by successfully making bullets and the Hall rifle.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Another family member who was looking out for the family in the future was Buck. He recounts to Roger how he spent some time with his mom and dad, Geillis and Dougal, in the 1730s. But as they both thought he was romantically interested in Geillis (which didn\u2019t bother Geillis one bit \u2014 classic Geillis), he left that time period. The stones took him back to the 1980s, where he protected his descendants and killed Rob Cameron<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Fraser family grows larger when none other than William shows up at the Ridge (and not to\u00a0 Mount Josiah as Lord John had assumed). He\u2019s warmly welcomed by the family and opens up to Brianna about his relationship with Amaranthus. He\u2019s still icy to his biological father, but Roger and Brianna nudge him into going fishing with Jamie.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Things start out promising on the father-son fishing trip, but they turn ugly when William reveals that he left Lord John\u2019s when he discovered him kissing Percy. He asks if Lord John and Jamie were lovers back at Ardsmuir. William\u2019s cruel words about Lord John\u2019s sexuality lead Jamie to defend his old friend, highlighting that he may have finally forgiven LJG for the whole Claire marriage fiasco<\/a>.<\/p>\n

After their argument, William is ready to flee again, but his stepmother x2, Claire, encourages him to stay. William then sees Jamie in the field with Mandy on a horse, and he flashes back to his time at Helwater when Jamie was his groom, complete with footage from Season 3\u2019s \u201cOf Lost Things.\u201d<\/a> William softens toward Jamie and visits him while training his militia. They encounter Mr. Whittaker, the father of the twins that Claire supernaturally saved<\/a>. He says that he and his men want to join Jamie\u2019s militia after Ferguson brutally burned down an entire village of free men. Before Jamie can introduce the welcomed new recruits to his troops, William interrupts with an awkward proposal to go \u201chunting in the forest.\u201d Jamie accepts.<\/p>\n

While hunting, William apologizes to Jamie for his malicious accusation about him and Lord John. He opens up about how much he had looked up to and loved \u201cMac the groom\u201d when he was a child, and how hurt he was that Jamie had abandoned him without a look back. \u201cI am your son,\u201d William says. \u201cHow could you leave me?\u201d<\/p>\n

With tears in his eyes, Jamie says he loved him too, but he didn\u2019t want William to suffer since he had nothing to offer his son as a Jacobite traitor. He only hadn\u2019t looked back at William when leaving so as not to lose his resolve. Now it\u2019s Jamie\u2019s turn to apologize, and William accepts with a cathartic cry and a big old hug. Let the healing begin!<\/p>\n

\"OUTLANDER<\/p>\n

Jamie\u2019s son may be feeling better, but Jamie\u2019s granddaughter is struggling as Fanny tells Rachel that some boys at the Trading Post told her Jane is in hell for being a murderer and dying by suicide. Rachel suggests she speak to Roger, who is officially going to be ordained as a Presbyterian minister. Fanny interrupts him while he\u2019s picking out a hymn for his ordination (his singing voice is basically healed after Buck had him hanged<\/a> back in Season 5). She won\u2019t divulge to him why she\u2019s come, but she\u2019s bitter toward God, and at his ordination, she flees the church. Like a good Reverend, he goes to her afterward and gets to the heart of what\u2019s troubling her. Roger tells her that though the Bible may make it seem like it\u2019s black and white, he doesn\u2019t believe Jane is necessarily in hell<\/a>, and encourages her to speak to God about it herself.<\/p>\n

Fanny takes comfort in Roger\u2019s words and, at her cairn, asks Jane for a sign that she\u2019ll see her again. Fanny then finds an emerald gemstone washed up in the riverbed. When she goes to pick it up, it\u2019s hot to the touch and cracks in her hands. She then hears the telltale buzzing \u2014 turns out, she\u2019s a time traveler like her grandmother Claire.<\/p>\n

\"OUTLANDER<\/p>\n

The episode ends in Savannah, where Percy has beckoned Lord John to get intel on the whereabouts of Captain Richardson (Ben Lambert), who had schemed against the Grey family in Season 7. But when Lord John arrives, it\u2019s a setup orchestrated by Percy! The black-hearted scoundrel Captain Richardson is there, and he promptly knocks LJG unconscious.<\/p>\n

\"OUTLANDER<\/p>\n

Good thing William and Jamie have come to terms with Lord John because he\u2019s going to need the both of them if he\u2019s going to get out of this mess. And with theories that Richardson could be a secret time traveler<\/a>, it doesn\u2019t hurt that there\u2019s another time traveler in the Fraser family.\u00a0<\/p>\n
